About the job

As a Material & Technology Engineer, you will play an important role in the journey towards our 2030 goal to ensure a 100% circular offer. Materials need to be renewable or recycled supporting sustainable circular flows of resources. You will work to investigate and introduce alternative materials and technologies to PUR foam, and actively work with internal and external stakeholders for IKEAs products. You will report to Engineering and Quality manager in Category area Comfort.

About the assignment

You will be responsible to initiate and lead material & technology development projects with external parties and you need to be continuously updated on developments in your specialist area. You will be a contributor in the product development to secure an effective utilization and implementation of new materials and technologies. You will also secure knowledge sharing and lead material specific trainings, as well as secure usage of standards where possible and standardization of existing and proven materials. You will also be responsible for the registration of PUR Foam types and existing latex foams in the IKEA systems as well as managing the specifications related to those materials.

Position requires travelling up to 50% of working time to suppliers both in and outside of Europe.

Qualifications

  • background in either chemical engineering, industrial engineering or in material science
  • solid material knowledge in PUR foam
  • experience in production environment and enjoy being on the factory floor doing trials at suppliers
  • passion for sustainability and recycling of materials
  • stay up to date and is curious about what is happening in the industry
  • have a black or green belt in Lean 6 Sigma
  • able to manage complex projects and multiple stakeholders in different locations at the same time
  • highly effective communicator who can speak and be heard on all levels within the organisation
  • motivated by result and to get things done as well as long term goals and results
  • speaking in IKEA terms and values, you like to be different with a meaning
  • fluent English (written, spoken)
  • driving license cat. B
