Job Description

The role of Transport Area North Europe is to plan, purchase, operate and control transport of finished products from production units located in our area to all IKEA stores and warehouses worldwide.

We are also responsible to purchase transport services for raw material flow to IKEA Industry factories located in our area. We do it in order to fulfil the transport performance demands by providing the transportation means in a cost efficient and operationally excellent way securing our sustainability standards among service providers.

Our geographic scope of operations covers the raw materials flows ending in and product flows starting in: Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Belorussia, Kazakhstan and Russia. We have sites in Älmhult, Warsaw and Moscow.

Our goal is to deliver seamless transport performance into areas of operational excellence, cost, supplying quality and sustainability.

Our mission is to deliver IKEA goods under good quality, in the right time at lowest possible cost.

About the job

Being the Area Operations Manager, you will secure excellence in logistical operational performance, by leading a team of team leaders (placed in Älmhult, Warsaw and Moscow) working with logistical development and transport / delivery planning, in close cooperation and alignment with all relevant supply chain stakeholders; contributing to reaching customer perceived availability at the lowest total cost (considering impacts of quality, safety, service performance, sustainability and other supply chain costs). You are a part of the Management Team for Transport & Logistic Services Area North Europe and report to Area Manager.

About the assignment

The Area Operations Manager will be responsible for several things.  Among these, you:

• Logistical ("flow") performance: Accountable for logistical operational performance and total cost development from end-to-end perspective as it is defined by respective set of KPIs and PIs (e.g. OTD Supply Chain); within given geographical scope. Secure preconditions for efficient cross-area collaboration between various Transport Areas.

• People and Competence development: Leads leaders and manages Operations & Planning Team, inspires and empowers team and individuals to perform the best and continuously develop in their assignments. Responsible for recruitment, development, performance management, retention and succession plan for coworkers in his/her team. Drives Leadership and Competence agenda in the team - identifies needs and gaps, builds and implements leadership and competence plans to meet short and long term biz needs.

• Leads in a way that IKEA culture and values become an everyday reality. 

• Stakeholder Management: Responsible for stakeholder alignment on management level within the given geographical scope. Secures effective collaboration with relevant stakeholders. TLS representative in Regional Operations Forums and responsible for escalations within given geographical scope from end-to-end perspective. Leads and coordinates Emergency Group Teams in case of logistical ("flow") deviations.  

• Supply Chain knowledge: Accountable to gather & share high level of supply chain knowledge within given scope of responsibility and utilize it effectively to secure business objectives. Responsible to create understanding within supply chain regarding mutual expectations, needs and preconditions with total cost in mind.

• Overall logistical ("flow") direction: Contributes to developing the BP and other concepts. Develops and implements AP in line with BP, securing excellent results in logistical operational development and performance. 

• Working Methods: Responsible to implement and secure compliance with relevant global working methods and spot checks within IKEA supply chain.

• Transport-related systems: Responsible to implement new systems and secure right competence development within the team. Responsible to build super user competence within the team for all defined systems.

• New replenishment solutions: Responsible for implementation and evaluation of new routes and follow-up the performance in collaboration with all concerned supply chain stakeholders.

• Global Assignments: Leads or contributes to projects or global assignments.
