IKEA Range & Supply has the responsibility to develop, design, produce and supply IKEA stores with home furnishing solutions available to the many people. Each year IKEA Range & Supply introduces 2,000 new products in the IKEA stores. The total range is almost 10,000 products.

IKEA Components task within IKEA is to pursue the development of future unique and customer friendly solutions within fittings and components to the IKEA range. We create substantial cost and quality benefits for IKEA in our development and trade of raw materials, components and fittings. IKEA Components is part of the IKEA group and shares the IKEA vision and values. Our business is global and we are 1500 employees based in Sweden, Slovakia and China. Through co-operation with IKEA Purchasing Offices we are in addition represented at several other sites around the world.

Job Description

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Development Engineer to join IKEA Components. The assignment focuses on the Open & Close and Assembly & Accessories range where IKEAs collective use of functional fittings, screws, nuts and more are secured from an engineering, quality and requirement perspective. In the product development process you will be responsible for:

- Identify critical and relevant customer needs.
- Create technical requirements based on these.
- Develop a solution and verify it at an early stage (using simulation, best practise, etc).
- Complete the solution with respect to DFM (Design For Manufacturing), complete set of requirements and DOE (Design Of Experiments) to secure full requirement fulfilment all the way to the end customer.
- Maintain the range over time with respect to new requirements/demands as well as improvements. 

Overall the Development Engineer will play a key role in contributing to better and safer products with the aim to enhance customer satisfaction.

About the assignment

As a Development Engineer you will be reporting to Deputy Engineering, Quality & Requirement Development Manager. Some of the key features are outlined below:

- Responsible for a specific solution area within the IKEA range.
- Continuously improving the range with regards to democratic design (Form, Function, Quality, Sustainability and Low Price).
- Developing new solutions within the range were gaps are identified. Working closely together with colleges at IKEA Components, development teams at IKEA of Sweden and Purchasing operations close to the component suppliers.
- Securing complete component documentation during the component life cycle.
- Creating and choosing verification test methods and strategies for the development phase.
- Contribute to the creation of additional development tests needed to secure design during the development phase.
- Communicate technical requirements to necessary partners during the component development phase (e.g. IKEA of Sweden, Home Furnishing supplier, component supplier).
- Identify any compliance gap in documented component requirements and give input to action plan work.
- Capture and communicate learnings about technical requirements to relevant stakeholders (e.g IKEA of Sweden, Home Furnishing Business´s, EQR matrix).

Qualifications

We think you have a university degree within engineering and experience applying technical requirements in the product development. You also have experience from verification testing, material technology and manufacturing methods.

You are analytical and structured and you pay great attention to details. You enjoy solving problems and have a willingness to share knowledge. You know the importance of working with stakeholders, internal as well as external. You are independent and focused.

IKEA of Sweden is a truly global environment, with colleagues from all over the world and you therefore need to be fluent in English both verbal and written.
The position is located in Älmhult, Sweden. Älmhult has excellent commuting possibilities with hourly trains to Malmö, Lund and Växjö and an IKEA shuttle bus back and forth to Helsingborg two times a day.
