We are seeking an energetic Systems Monitoring Engineer with experience deploying, optimizing and refining systems monitoring tools - both homegrown and commercial.  As a Systems Monitoring Engineer you will be viewed as an expert on monitoring the health of our application systems infrastructure - going beyond simply CPU and memory to the health of the applications hosted on these systems.  Your work on our monitoring stack will run across our global data centers running a fleet of Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.  You will participate in and at times lead efforts to standardize and automate our monitoring stack - standardizing deployment scripts and methods;  automating monitoring creation via infrastructure-as-code approaches;  streamlining the signal-to-noise ratio via optimization to make alerts more actionable and relevant for our infrastructure and support teams.  All of this and being able to participate in our high-growth journey as we launch brand new data centers across the globe as well as in AWS!! 

Job Summary: 

The SRE team is a blend of pragmatic operators and software craftspeople that apply sound engineering principles, operational discipline, and mature automation to our environments. We specialize in systems covering operating systems, storage, networking, VMware, databases, monitoring, and performance. 

The Systems Monitoring Team is responsible for the monitoring infrastructure and the Monitoring Strategy for all Intelerad systems and applications. The team is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting the monitoring infrastructure and building the ability for R&D, Support, and other SRE teams to create alerting, data collection, and defining dashboards to aid in the troubleshooting, capacity planning, reacting to events, etc. 

 

As a Systems Monitoring Engineer, you will be responsible for developing platforms, infrastructure, and tools to support the Systems Monitoring of Intelerad’s Infrastructure and Applications.

Duties/Responsibilities: 

Software Development:: 

  • Design, prototype, develop, test, document, automate the monitoring infrastructure at Intelerad 

  • Refine the delivery of monitoring infrastructure to continuously improve its performance 

  • Develop a deep understanding of our client’s needs 

  • Tackle issues that may arise across the full software stack 

Project Management: 

  • Work in an Agile Development workflow 

  • Participate in project scoping, requirements gathering and time estimation with minimal supervision 

  • Strive to complete your deliverables according to requirements within the time estimates 

Teamwork: 

  • Collaborate with other team members to maximize the team’s productivity and our product’s quality. 

  • Stay current with developments in your discipline and share with the team your knowledge and promote opportunities for growth and improvement. 

Qualifications

  • University or college education in science, technology, engineering, or equivalent industry experience 

  • 3+ years’ experience in monitoring focused engineering roles 

  • Experience implementing a monitoring solution on both Windows and Linux servers using an application like, Prometheus/Grafana, DataDog, New Relic, Splunk or equivalent 

  • Experience setting up ingestion of events and logs into monitoring server 

  • Experience in configuration of dashboard, alerts and notification based on metrics collected 

  • Experience in automation of system performance reports  

  • Experience with orchestration and automation software (e.g., Puppet, Ansible, Chef) 

  • Excellent scripting skills (Windows PowerShell, Unix Shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python) 

  • Excellent knowledge of implementing infrastructure as code 

  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows server administration 

  • Working experience with AWS and/or other cloud infrastructure 

  • Experience designing and building complex CI/CD pipelines 

  • Excellent teamwork skills, and the ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships 

  • Attention to detail and strong problem solving abilities 

  • Strong technical aptitude and an understanding of medical imaging 

 

Desired Experience/Skills: 

 

  • 3+ years working in a DevOps environment 

  • Experience working in an SRE environment 

  • Good written and oral communication skills 

  • Strong troubleshooting techniques 

  • Proven ability to be structured, organized and detail oriented 

  • Experience with Linux, shell scripts, command line 

  • Knowledge of VMware Enterprise, Windows Server, Linux 

  • Knowledge of Databases 

  • Knowledge of Automation and Monitoring technologies and principles 

  • Experience with networking, firewall configuration, and troubleshooting 

  • Strong understanding of medical imaging, radiology workflow, and integration using industry concepts: 

  • PACS 

  • RIS 

  • DICOM 

  • HL7 and interface engines 

  • HIPAA/HITECH 

  • IHE profiles 

  • EMR/EHR 

  • 3rd party vendor integrations 

  • regulatory, and security requirements
