Job Description
Job title: Veterinarian Technician
Location:Minneapolis,MN Duration: 3+months(possibility of extension) Shift: Tuesday-Friday 9:30am - 8:00pm POSITION DESCRIPTION:
· Possess extensive knowledge in specialized functions of veterinary technician duties with the ability to perform a variety of veterinary technician and general husbandry duties using the appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) required in the area.
· This position requires professional judgment and independent initiative in determining work methods and may have full responsibility of projects that can be extremely complex in nature.
· This position works under direct supervision in a team environment. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Understand and be committed to the Healthcare Mission and PRL Vision and Values • Know and maintain compliance with GLP, FDA, USDA, AAALAC, IACUC, and all other applicable regulations and guidelines as they apply to the non-clinical research environment. • Adhere to standard operating procedures, work instructions, department guidelines, policies, and study protocols when completing the following: o Animal Husbandry o Animal Handling o Animal Observation o Documentation o Data Collection o Housekeeping o Stocking Supplies o Maintain and Operate Equipment o Medication Calculation and Administration o Sample Collection o Animal Treatments o Patient Care and Pain management o Pre and Post-Operative Care o Animal Recovery o Assist Vet with Emergency Procedures o Assess and Interpret Physiological Changes o Perform Emergency CPR o Recover Health Compromised Animals from Anesthesia and Surgery o Critical Patient Care • Participate in the overall function of the Research Operations department which may include o Late shift coverage o Animal/employee training o Study support o Process improvement processes o Support of department goals • Perform computer and clerical functions to ensure organized and accurate reporting of animal observations, tasks, and data collection. • The Technician IV position is expected to assist the team in the completion of daily tasks as individual duties are completed. • Maintain professional growth and development. • Perform other related duties as requested. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: • Able to read, understand and follow department and facility procedures and policies. • Demonstrate legible handwriting • Experience handling multiple animal species • Experience working independently and in a team environment • Experience communicating individually and within a team • Experience working with computer applications and web-based applications EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Associate Degree Veterinary Technician or Bachelor Degree in the Veterinary Technology field YEARS OF EXPERIENCE 5+ years of experience working in animal research/animal care. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED • A positive attitude about the use of animals in research. • Advanced knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and anesthesia. • Advanced knowledge and experience in post-operative care, critical patient care, and pain management. • Advanced knowledge and experience in emergency response. • Advanced veterinary technical skills. • Advanced knowledge and understanding of anesthesia and patient monitoring equipment. • Knowledge of animal and human disease states. ____________________________________________________________________________ DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (optional) AALAS Certification at the ALAT, LAT or LATG level ____________________________________________________________________________ PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: • No known allergies to multiple types of animal species. • Physically able to lift/carry and push/pull up to 50 pounds safely. • Able to handle multiple types of animal species. Safe handling procedures required when work with animals. • May involve exposure to chemicals.
