Job Description

Primary Duties:  

• Laboratory and related work (80-90% of time) under daily to weekly supervision: 

• Provide support functions for an immunology lab, including preparation of buffers, ordering and stocking laboratory supplies, and regular maintenance of research instruments and equipment 

• Perform and closely monitor FACS acquisition runs lasting up to 4 hours at a time. 

• Work closely with other scientists to run a variety of immune cell- and/or serum-based immunoassays with samples generated from Vaccine Research project. 

• Studies (including studies with large sample numbers >100). 

• Define study aims and experimental plans with supervisor and then execute the work following the agreed plans as part of a team effort. 

• Identify and report any experimental problems, troubleshoot causative factors, and implement necessary corrections following discussion with team members and/or supervisor. 

• With support of their supervisor, analyze and interpret experimental data. 

• Regularly record experimental work upon completion in electronic notebook systems and archive instrument raw data in server databases. 


Communication: 

• Communicate clearly with the Cellular Immunology Team to ensure tasks are performed as required 


Safety: 

Comply with all EH&S regulations and safe laboratory practices and act as a vigilant advocate for the safety of fellow colleagues. 

• Identify and act to reduce hazards and risks in the laboratory through use of Risk Assessments and Job-based Hazard Assessments. 



Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

Associate degree or B.Sc. in life sciences, preferably including immunology Hands on experience in a relevant laboratory setting with familiarity in aseptic work technique in biological safety cabinets Critical skills needed: Experience in aseptic work technique in biological safety cabinets.
