Tampa/Ft Myers  and The Panhandle will be “home areas” but travel will be required as well.

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The OSP Fielder provides support engineering services through the highly-detailed collection of information from the job site. This position requires a working level of knowledge in all technical aspects of OSP fiber and copper networks. The successful candidate is responsible for identifying the existing field design and layout of the OSP (Outside Plant) telecommunications network to include aerial, buried, and underground fiber network design and layout, underground conduit, manhole/handhole, building entrance, and riser facilities.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify, photograph, & Sketch detailed information of required facilities, including cables, poles, terminals, handholes, & other outside plant infrastructure.
  • Capture accurate measurements of attachment heights, span distances, utility structures, & distances from existing/proposed OSP facilities to centerlines, property lines, and curb lines.
  • Identify power and communication facilities and ownership on utility poles.
  • Record bonding, grounding, guying, and anchor information.
  • Deliver detailed field notes & photographs to the engineering team.
  • Identification of any potential issues with proposed routes.
  • Understanding of OSP construction techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand maps, conduit records, and layout drawings.
  • Be able to effectively utilize tools, such as measuring wheels, height sticks, pull finders, MH/HH hooks, & laser rangefinder.
  • Capability of managing own workload and prioritizing multiple field engineering assignments
  • Negotiate and execute building access agreements

 

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS

    • 2+ years of experience in fiber-optic/telecommunications/telecom construction industry
    • Knowledge of outside plant activities (Fiber Cable Design, Pole Line Construction, Conduit System design)
    • Ability to read and understand as build prints, and be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for projects
    • Familiar with GIS (Geographic Information Systems), ESRI, and shapefile functionality
    • Understanding of National Electric Safety Code and knowledge of OSP construction and engineering techniques.
    • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Earth.
    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD (a plus)
    • High School Diploma and or equivalent work experience
    • Ability to work outdoors 90% of the time
    • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation with an acceptable driving record, and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
    • Good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to learn new technical systems and tools
    • Ability to resolve problems following standard practices, using judgment within defined policies and guidelines
    • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
