Defines test objectives/success criteria and develops test plans and procedures for single air vehicle platform and/or ground equipment. Designs test hardware and systems. Instruments and calibrates test articles. Verifies and validates test requirements to include flight characteristics/mission capability, supportability and manufacturing principles. Provides technical support, proposal content, cost/schedule estimates and instrumentation/ test condition definitions. Directs flight/ground tests and coordinates and confirms test data collection. Evaluates test outcomes. Revises plans or procedures and initiates retests of test points. Coordinates and confirms test article deficiencies have been documented and corrected. Directs test site support and confirms available resources. Evaluates test data and performs analysis. Authors test reports and makes conclusions and recommendations. May operate test systems and/or instrumentation as needed.
- Knowledge of air vehicle design and operations
- Knowledge of operation, integration, installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of automatic test equipment associated software, Test Program Steps (TPS) and programming codes.
- Knowledge of flight test requirements and environment
- Ability to document flight test and communicate the data clearly to the appropriate audience verbally or through technical reports
- Ability to prepare test article, conduct a test, monitor progress and record test related data and activities. Maintain test equipment.
This job is limited to employees who, in the performance of their assigned work, regularly apply engineering disciplines to the research, design, development, test, and evaluation of company products, facilities, or manufacturing process and possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree of Science from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
Typical experience: 5-8 years in an engineering classification with a Bachelor's degree or 3-6 years experience in an engineering classification with a Master's degree.
