Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a team reporting into one of our Software Engineering, Senior Managers. Within this team, you will work on designing, developing and delivering Longview's cloud-based software platform. This product is used by both our Solutions team and directly by customers to implement CPM and Tax business solutions. You will have a passion for software development and code quality, as well being committed to continuous improvement and having excellent communication skills. You will be a results-oriented person with a delivery focus and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the technology tools and frameworks used by the Engineering team at insightsoftware
  • Acquire functional knowledge of the Longview software product we build
  • Analyse requirements from our product team and translate those requirements into technical tasks
  • Participate in design sessions
  • Conduct efficient code reviews and respect the team's coding standards
  • Participate in hands-on development of user stories and technical improvements
  • Write unit test, debug defects, and participate in regression test efforts
  • Work successfully with the Longview engineers to build and deliver quality software on time and on budget

Collaborate well with a remote first team, participating in and contributing in Scrum meetings, work effort estimates, and pair programming initiatives

Qualifications

Skills required:

  • 5 to 8 years of commercial software development experience
  • C / C++ development
  • Experience development for both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) systems
  • Experience in designing distributed / scalable / reliable / big data / high-performance / secure systems
  • Familiarity with relational databases, SQL, and ODBC
  • Ability to translate functional requirements into technical designs
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle's best-practices and processes
  • Organized and self-motivated, willing to learn
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information and negotiate trade-offs with a variety of audiences
  • Readiness to contribute to discussions and steer the team to continuously improve, both technically (how the code is designed, or how the product is architected) and process-wise (how we interact as a team)
  • Academic degree in a STEM discipline. Familiar with algorithms and computer science concepts
  • Experience in Scrum or other agile development processes

Experience with the following is desirable:

  • JavaScript, HTML, Knowledge of REST, web service, containerization
  • C#
  • Excel add-ins development
  • Knowledge of financial services
