Job Description

insightsoftware is looking for a Computer Patching Specialist who will strategically address Corporate IT patching needs, helpdesk tickets, and provide a positive customer experience to our employees. The Computer Patching Specialist will be responsible for overseeing, tracking, and scheduling all computer patching efforts for a large-scale enterprise environment. They will run and maintain current patch management systems with a continual eye for improvement.  The candidate will analyze trends to identify potential patching errors in all environments and will work with respective teams to ensure those errors do not re-occur in future patching cycles. This critical role will help secure the infrastructure from medium to critical security threats.  The patching administrator will also maintain and update all patching maintenance windows with the business.  The selected candidate will interface with the Security, Application, Infrastructure and ITSM teams to coordinate Windows/Linux patching deployments. They will create and maintain operational procedures as needed to ensure patching success rates and will be the main point of communication for security patching. Additionally, the candidate will interface with management to conduct reviews and provide reporting on patching status and any trends seen to help improve the health of the environment 

 
What You'll Do:  

  • Perform patch management tasks that include but are not limited to maintaining current knowledge of available patches, deciding what patches are appropriate for particular systems, ensuring that patches are installed properly, testing systems after installation, and documenting all associated procedures. 

  • Works with and manages cross-functional teams to identify operational procedures and best practices following patch management strategy 

  • Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network, software, and system engineers, PC desktop technicians, project managers, end users, and customer and IT management. 

  • Analyzes trend data to identify potential patch related issues on various images and assists teams in troubleshooting to implement any resolutions/improvements needed for proactive resolution. 

  • Recommend and implement system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system including installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management 

  • Employs continual service improvement through monthly and quarterly patch management metrics reviews 

  • Ensures overall service levels for server uptimes through patch management standards, enterprise images and driver packages 

  • Defines and assesses patching service levels and success rates 

  • Supports the determination of patches needed as well as the implementation of corrective actions. 

  • Works with the Information Security team to patch system vulnerabilities 

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in a similar role and have experience with helpdesk ticketing systems.  

  • Ability to communicate technical issues and translate them into non-technical business reviews 

  • Patch management and patch automation experience 

  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining computer hardware in a networked environment. 

  • Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems including Windows Server, Windows 10+, Remote Desktop 

  • Experience in using ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus, Qualys and Chocolately will be considered favourably 

  • Hands-on experience with laptop and server hardware troubleshooting, VOIP and phone technologies, anti-virus systems, and imaging/patching software.  

  • Ability to multi-task tickets and projects while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.  

  • Strong and effective written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to collaborate with team members at all levels of the organization.  

  • Must have a strong diagnostic and problem-solving ability.  

  • Fast learner, self-starter, proactive, positive, creative, and flexible.  

  • People-oriented with excellent customer service and good communication skills, verbal and written with particular attention to detail  

  • Stays current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.  

  • Must be a team player willing to make every effort to make the team a success.
