Job Description

We’re re-shaping our legal team and now have an additional Legal Counsel opportunity to join a full service in-house legal team who has a physical presence in 18 countries and activity in over 100 countries. We’re a purpose driven company where there are lots of cross-jurisdictional project work, strategy implementation and opportunities to develop collaboration and influencing skills. You’ll be given the autonomy to get on with BAU matters which includes commercial contracts, data protection and intellectual property.

This is a flexible hybrid opportunity to work between home and the H/O in Dundee and there is an expectation that you’ll be able to travel to the office regularly. Most of the team are UK-based but you do have colleagues in Singapore and Canada that you’ll also connect with regularly.

Day to day you’ll

  • Support our implementation of legal tech solutions to automate our global processes and ensure the team is working as efficiently as possible
  • Lead, review and conclude contract negotiations to finalise terms and conditions in a timely and pragmatic manner
  • Identify common trends and themes and ensure these are shared among the legal and risk team to create continuity and consistency of advice and improvements to process
  • Support and champion effective preservation of intellectual property as an asset
  • Spot potential issues across the organisation and make recommendations to resolve them, consulting with Senior Legal Counsel, Head of Legal & Risk or other peers
  • Be a trusted advisor to the business, providing guidance, solutions and support to colleagues, (across jurisdictions) managing and protecting our IP assets and ensuring legal compliance
  • Participate in cross functional teams as a legal and risk representative, keeping the wider legal team appraised on progress
  • Champion policies and actively implement processes to support smooth transactions

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years PQE in Scottish/English law and being dual qualified would be highly beneficial
  • Foundation in commercial law, data protection, intellectual property, governance and risk
  • Great skills in building and maintaining client relationships
  • The instinct to dig deep into the needs and interests of clients to generate ideas and solutions to problems.
  • Ability to quickly grasp key issues and understand their strategic importance as a context for project coordination
  • Strong focus on the customer experience and always prepared to ‘go the extra mile' in delivering service on time and to the highest standards
  • A proactive approach to problem identification and solution
  • Ability to negotiate and provide general commercial legal advice in English is mandatory.
