Job Description
Primary role purpose:
As part of the Cloud & Infrastructure team within Group IT, you will be responsible for the delivery and management of cloud infrastructure and services on both public and private clouds. You will play a key role in driving the adoption of and the journey to the cloud, providing technical expertise, leadership and knowledge transfer. You'll also have responsibilities for defining and supporting the adoption of best practices and driving continuous improvement and implementation of automation, where appropriate. As the Cloud Engineer in a small team you’ll also be an escalation point for operational teams covering both cloud and on premise infrastructure.
The role will require collaboration with project teams to provide delivery, engineering and operational support on various projects within Inmarsat.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake project delivery tasks, delivering cloud infrastructure and cloud services
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify root cause, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures
- Contribute to the transformation to cloud through hands-on technical expertise
- Responsible for installation and configuration of Platforms and Systems related to our Group IT
- Maintain infrastructure services to meet agreed SLA commitments with the business and other divisional stakeholders
- Provide subject matter expertise to project, delivery teams and IT Operations unit
- Contribute to the implementation of proactive infrastructure security features, patches, and upgrades using an Infrastructure-As-Code approach to achieve secure, stable, and reliable services
- Maintain responsibility for the security, availability and integrity of Group IT hybrid cloud environment
- Actively participate in the development and establishment of cloud services capabilities encompassing CloudOps / DevOps practices
- Engage in the development and ongoing maintenance of the Group IT technology roadmap
- Document infrastructure and work instructions for systems and applications hosted under Cloud stacks
- Engage with the Solutions Designers to ensure that designs are in line with the needs of current and future platform requirements
- Manage and provide current platform usage statistics and provide future project growth estimates
- Provide knowledge sharing across the team to support the ongoing development of cross team operational support functions
- Respond to major incidents, on-calls and conference calls in support of IT business processes
- Participate in recovery testing and DR/BC exercises
Qualifications
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Technical expertise in a Cloud Engineering role focused on Amazon Cloud Services
- Proven track record of overseeing IT/Cloud service delivery
- Ability to plan, collaborate, and strategize within a global context
- Strong infrastructure background (Linux/Windows) and hands-on exposure to Cloud and automation technologies
- Continuous Integration/Delivery/Deployment & amp; Orchestration - Jenkins or one of its variant
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace
- Experience with log management tools such as ELK
- Experience with implementing security best practices in server configuration, tool development, and access controls
- Creating/managing monitoring sub-system using open source and off the shelf products
- AWS certification is highly preferred plus Vendor certifications from Red Hat, Microsoft etc. are a big plus
