Job Description

The main task of the NCC Controller is to keep Inmarsat service availability as high as possible. This is done by actively monitoring network and system performance and acting in case of any degradation or outage. Inmarsat services includes maritime distress systems and global IP backbone networks. The NCC Controller initiates, coordinates, logs and reports all restoration activities.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Monitor system performances, initiate and coordinate recovery activities in case of a hazardous condition, service degradation or outage.
·         Monitor the progress of any distress traffic in the network and ensure delivery to Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centres (MRCC).
·         Monitor for security threats in various IP-networks and perform first line analyses.
·         Analyse system log files, perform regular checks on systems and services to ensure its reliability.
·         Report any planned and unplanned activities to internal and external parties.
·         Provide 2nd line technical customer support.
·         Deliver performance reports to management.
·         Provide accurate shift handovers.
·         Maintain log book for all NCC activities.
·         Keep monitoring tools, processes and procedures up-to-date.
·         Assist engineers with installation and configuration activities.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills: 
•    Technical education in electronics, telecommunication or IT from a technical college (Dutch MBO+/HBO)
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
•    CCNA Routing and Switching certificate is mandatory.
•    Knowledge of Satellite and GSM Telecom technologies.
•    Able to analyse and prioritise under stressful conditions.
•    Structured, analytical and efficient in problem solving.
•    High focus on Inmarsat internal and external customers.
•    Good interpersonal skills to work in a team.
•    Excellent reporting skills.


Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
•    Considerable knowledge of Inmarsat Services.
•    Certification in Network Security (f.i. CCNA Security, Certified Ethical Hacker)
•    Any existing experience with automation platforms and scripting
•    Willingness to learn new skills to help drive automation. 
•    ITIL Certified to Foundation level preferred
•    Shell scripting skills for automation or testing purpose.
•    Experience with Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, Unix, VMS).
•    Experience with network monitoring tools.
•    Experience in providing training
