Primary role purpose:

Reporting to the VP Solutions Engineering for Maritime, “Shore side Portal Solutions Developer Engineer”.

The department of the Maritime Business Unit Solutions Engineering is responsible for technical sales support, market adaptation development, testing and implementation of Products for Inmarsat’s maritime customers. The department has a near collaboration with MBU-Technical Sales, CPO, and with other divisions in Inmarsat, such as CTO, COO and CPO System Engineering. Important focus areas are: Tactical product features for Fleet Xpress, Inmarsat’s Digital Platform (Fleet Edge), solutions for Inmarsat’s CAP program, automation of systems and processes, work closely MBU- Technical sales contributing to improved knowledge and documentation. As “Shore side Portal Solutions Developer Engineer”, you will work in multiple projects related to the areas above, in a team with a wide range of technical competence - such as IP networks, satellite networks and terminals, servers and operating systems, and multiple software languages.
 

Key Responsibilities:

• “Shore side Portal Solutions developer Engineer”, and SME for end-to-end retail management and provisioning systems.
• Developing and executing retail management systems, including OMS for retail inventory, configuration and fleet management.
• Capture and develop against requirements for end-to-end retail management and provisioning systems in the Maritime retail domain.
• Key knowledge and experience building scalable systems design and data driven applications.
• Developer and SME for retail eco-system, including ship system design, shore operational systems and VOIP solutions.
• Contribute with retail solutions innovation, proposing/exploring new solutions within a broad range of technology such as big data solutions and operations enhancements.
• Recognize potential improvement in areas of process, scalability, quality, performance, security, and maintainability within retail eco-system.
• Educating other parts of the organisation about VSAT and maritime understanding in a technical context.
• Generate and maintain systems documentation, i.e. schematic drawings, design documentation, test and installation procedures.
• Ensure proper handover between the Solutions Engineering team and other departments in Inmarsat, such as Inmarsat Maritime, Product Group and Inmarsat Operations

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

• Master or Bachelor level of technical education, or relevant work experience
• Experience with telecommunications and application development.
• Significant experience in telecommunication environments, as senior engineer and architect.
• Experience with OpenNMS, Nagios, Linux, SQL-databases and SNMP, preferred.
• Knowledge of of Shell scripting (Perl, Python and Bash).
• Knowledge of Enterprise Java and Java eco-system.
• Knowledge in building scalable systems.
• Knowledge of modern web development technologies:  web services (REST), databases, Open Source environments, continuous integration, and automated testing.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, able to balance multiple projects and tasks, complete them successfully, and within timelines.
• Able to translate between business requirements and the needs of the technical community in the form of Requirements specifications, architecture specifications and technical designs.
• Deep understanding of modern rapid and agile development methodologies and test-driven, iterative development practices.
• Experience with OSS systems.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, in English.

• Technical knowledge from on IOT and Digitalisation preferred.
