Job Description

The Buyer/Planner functions to support all Purchasing and Storeroom activities for our 24/7 manufacturing facility. This position reports to the Purchasing Agent and may perform all aspects of material sourcing including: identify, research, plan, negotiate, purchase, expedite and document materials as well as handling disposal and asset recovery functions. This position interacts with all mill departments as well as vendors and service providers.

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with requisitioning departments and personnel on material requests

  • Communicate effectively with suppliers in all aspects of the purchasing and inventory functions. Specific tasks may include but are not limited to researching parts (including alternatives), analyzing quotes, negotiating pricing, placing orders, expediting deliveries, solving quantity and/or invoice issues, obtain shipping and forwarding information

  • Maintain proper documentation (both physical and electronic) for all orders, amendments, returns, inspections, waste disposals, certifications, training, etc.

  • Understand inventory control systems and assist in storeroom functions, including maintenance of ERP system; reporting on backorders, stock outs, reorders, equipment costs, and other data as requested

  • Involvement with logistics for transportation in both truck and rail as needed

  • Assist with development and implementation of action plans for continuous improvement

  • Prepare correspondence, reports and other materials as requested; assist accounting with invoice discrepancies

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Competencies:

  • Ability to work effectively with competing priorities, maintain organized environment and use time productively and efficiently

  • Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude. Able to read prints/drawings

  • Highly functioning computer proficiency; MS Office and ERP systems

  • Excellent analysis/problem solving skills, able to develop and execute innovative solutions

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in business administration, economics, supply chain management, engineering or related field

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience with purchasing, supply chain or materials control in a manufacturing environment; demonstrated adherence to high ethical standards and fiscal responsibility

  • CPSM, CSCP, CPP, SPSM, etc. certification or working towards one

  • Experience with MRP/ERP programs preferred

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug/alcohol screening and background check
