Job Description

This position provides support and resources to all departments to ensure mill goals are achieved in the areas of safety, quality, environmental performance, productivity and process development, and cost control.

  • Manage the wastewater treatment and sludge handling systems from daily operational changes to capital improvements.

  • Maintain regulatory compliance in accordance with state and federal air and water permits.  This includes maintaining laboratory accreditation and the submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

  • Work with operating departments to improve and optimize production, and resolve issues; research and assess potential technology as needed.

  • Oversee mill-wide chemical programs to include:  administration of the SDS library; provide employee training; develop and sustain vendor relationships; and initiate process improvement trials from inception/R&D through implementation and performance analysis.

  • Define, design, and manage upgrades to technical processes.

  • Supervise laboratory and operations personnel, supporting their job responsibilities as needed. Create development plans and support individual professional growth opportunities.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Mill President.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering preferred. Mechanical, Industrial, Environmental, or related Engineering degree's will be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years field/plant work with supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, interpret and draw conclusions from data.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively with all levels of the organization to solve problems and execute solutions.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills including ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and distributed control systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills especially related to change management
  • Knowledge of pulp and paper manufacturing desired, but not required
  • Familiarity with Washington State environmental regulations desired but not required.
  • Possible schedule rotation or other needs to cover 24/365 operation
  • Non-smoking, drug-free workplace
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug/alcohol test, and pre-employment physical
