Job Description
The Terminal Operations Apprentice is an opportunity for an enrolled high school student who is a Junior or Senior to gain terminal operations, logistics, and safety knowledge experience while working under the guidance of the Terminal Supervisors and Terminal Managers in our Granite City, IL location. This apprenticeship is designed to provide foundational knowledge and practical skills in cargo handling, equipment operation, regulatory compliance, and overall terminal efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting in daily terminal operations, including loading, unloading, and storage of cargo.
- Learning and adhering to safety regulations, environmental policies, and operational best practices.
- Supporting equipment inspections, maintenance scheduling, and inventory management.
- Working alongside operations teams to understand logistics, scheduling, and coordination of inbound and outbound shipments.
- Participating in training sessions on industry regulations, emergency response procedures, and risk management.
- Gaining exposure to terminal management systems, reporting, and performance tracking.
- Assisting in communication and coordination with truck drivers, vessel crews, and warehouse staff.
- Following company policies and contribute to a safe and efficient work environment.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills:
- Enrolled in high school as a Junior or Senior
- Willingness to complete and pass a background check and drug screen
- If under age 18, parental consent is required
- Strong interest in terminal operations, logistics, and supply chain management.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced team members.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn terminal management software.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
