Job Description

The Vice President, Corporate China Markets is a new pivotal role within Taylor & Francis, responsible for driving strategic growth and revenue generation from Corporate markets in one of the most dynamic and high-potential regions for the business. This role is critical to expanding T&F’s Corporate footprint in China, building strong connections with key stakeholders, and unlocking opportunities in high growth market sectors. Including pharmaceutical, biotech, manufacturing, new energy, technology and AI.  The VP will lead the business development team in China, ensuring alignment with T&F’s global Corporate strategy while fostering collaboration with Informa’s broader network to maximize B2B synergies and market impact.

What you will be doing:

Strategic Market Development 

  • Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities in China’s vertical markets, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and technology. 
  • Develop and execute market entry strategies to open doors in new sectors and establish T&F as a trusted corporate knowledge partner in the region. 
  • Build and nurture relationships  with key industry players to strengthen T&F’s presence and reputation.  Align with our existing T&F teams, established in the China market to serve government and academic institutions, whilst building out a network of new corporate opportunities. Focus on broader internal collaboration with wider Informa  group organisations to grow our presence and market penetration via Informa events and network, maximising opportunities to grow our business with the insight into key vertical markets needs Informa China teams can enable.  

Revenue Generation and P&L Ownership 

  • Drive revenue growth by developing and implementing strategies that directly grow Corporate revenue and future pipeline opportunity, from established revenue lines (e.g journal subscriptions, translation, rights & loyalties) and new avenues identified to meet corporate customer evolving needs and specific vertical market value propositions. 
  • Monitor and analyse market trends  to identify opportunities for revenue optimization and cost efficiency from corporate products.  

Leadership and Team Development 

  • Lead and inspire the business development team in China, fostering a growth mindset and a culture of innovation, revenue delivery, collaboration, and high performance. As a new team, the team will need galvanising around the core ambition and aligning to the wider business priorities.  
  • Set clear goals and KPIs for the team, ensuring alignment with T&F’s global objectives. 
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, enabling them to excel in their roles and contribute to the company’s success. Ensure high performance and manage any performance related concerns.  

Customer and Market Insight 

  • Understand customer needs and market dynamics by engaging in meaningful conversations with stakeholders and using that research to input into strategic planning.  
  • Develop a deep understanding of the marketplace, including competitive landscape, regulatory environment, and customer behaviour. 
  • Fast-track conversations with key decision-makers to uncover opportunities and address challenges effectively.  

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven track record in business development and revenue generation, accountability for a high growth, multi million-pound revenue line, ideally within vertical markets such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, or technology. 
  • Deep knowledge of the Chinese marketplace, including cultural, economic, and regulatory nuances. Facilitating and upskilling other members of the global T&F leadership structure.  
  • Experience in leading high-performing teams and driving strategic initiatives in complex environments. Have a strong Leadership presence, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams while representing T&F at the highest levels in the market. 
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to open doors and establish trust with stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a focus on driving P&L performance and achieving revenue targets. 
  • Strategic thinker who can identify opportunities, develop actionable plans, and execute them effectively. 
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to fast-track conversations and influence decision-making. 
  • Resilience and adaptability, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and navigate challenges effectively. 
  • Cultural intelligence, with a deep understanding of Chinese business practices, customer behavior, and market dynamics. 
  • Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work seamlessly across teams and organizations. 
  • Prior experience working in a global matrix organisation.  
  • Fluency in Mandarin and English is essential

This role is open to candidates based in Shanghai. Candidates must have the right to work in China.

Location: 

  • This role is open to candidates based in Shanghai. Candidates must have the right to work in China. 
  • We believe that great things happen when people connect face-to-face. That's why we work in-person with each other, or with customers and partners, three days a week or more. When you’re not spending time together in one of our offices or other workplaces – like at conference – you get the flexibility and support to work from home or remotely.
  • The successful candidate will be able to utilise our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance to our Shangahi office (Shui on Plaza) to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office location 3 days per week. 
  • Business travel would be required. 
  • Relocation support is not provided for this role.
