Job Description

The Sales Executive Author and Professional Sales (APS) role is a key role within our Consumer division, working across a range of accounts and touchpoints e.g. Authors and networks, training providers, corporates and other institutions.  The role is responsible for prioritising product and customer opportunities to achieve annual revenue targets, via sustainable and consultative sales account management.  

Key Accountabilities:

Reporting into APS Sales Manager, tasks will include:

  • Achieving and exceeding annual territory sales targets, contributing to the overall revenue and profit objectives of the division
  • Prioritise product and customer opportunities to achieve best revenue outcomes across channels served
  • Combine longer term account management with new customer prospecting/development
  • Work across existing books content base (Print and eBooks) and future new Consumer division content targeting revenue potential and external customer opportunity
  • Actively liaise with stakeholder departments or groups within the business to enhance T&F’s coverage of content opportunity – includes Content, marketing, credit control, operations
  • Play a front-line role in the author relationship and associated networks
  • Support development of new solutions to enable customer success
  • Report periodically to managers on sales progress and the business environment, this ensuring responsiveness to both the micro and macro trading conditions.
  • Collects and disseminates market, competitor, and customer feedback, including passing on leads where the customer may be better served by a different T&F channel/offering
  • Establish a strategic approach to the short, medium and long term business on territory, to ensure that activity is both relevant and flexible to the evolving trading environment over time
  • Uphold company trading and terms policy in order to protect profitability and value of business in territory
  • Prepares for, attends, and contributes to sales meetings and events to build strategic awareness and to gather market relevant intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working in a sales environment, with an understanding of the demands placed on sales and the support needs of a sales team
  • Knowledge of the academic publishing industry or the book trade
  • Competent user of core MS Office package
  • Basic knowledge of copyright
  • The ability to work independently and pro-actively, with awareness of when to need to delegate tasks
  • Consultative sales skills and a customer focused approach
  • Willingness to travel extensively on territory and to conferences, book fairs as required by the company
  • Target driven approach and the skills to manage sales budgets
  • Consultative sales skills and the ability to influence
  • Ability to create and maintain positive and effective relationships with the sales team and other internal colleagues.
  • A clear communicator, comfortable communicating in writing and verbally, with excellent grammar and spelling
  • Language skills appropriate to territory
  • Good analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills

Additional Information

Location: We believe that great things happen when people connect face-to-face. That's why we work in-person with each other, or with customers and partners, three days a week or more. When you’re not spending time together in one of our offices or other workplaces – like at conference – you get the flexibility and support to work from home or remotely.

The successful candidate will be able to utilise our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance of our office in Milton Park, Oxfordshire, to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office locations to collaborate as required. There is an expectation for a minimum of 3 days per week in-person time.

Please note our Milton Park office will be relocating to Oxford city centre in late 2027 / early 2028, offering an exciting new workplace in the heart of the city.
