Job Description

The Data Team Manager is an exciting position within the Lloyd’s List Intelligence Content team that will head up our ship tracking team and be responsible for continuing the growth of our data offering, as well as reviewing and integrating other vessel tracking solutions on the market, thereby increasing the global coverage of our vessel tracking capabilities. This role requires complete responsibility of the health and growth of LLI’s vessel tracking systems, ensuring full management of all data suppliers. This position presents an exciting opportunity for a results-driven individual with a strong understanding of complex data structures and data management experience looking to develop their people management skills, learn more about commercial decision-making and gain a deeper understanding of customer-led product development. Maritime industry knowledge would be an advantage but more importantly we are looking for someone who has a passion for data management and analytics, who thrives in leading a fast-paced team to deliver outstanding levels of data-led services.


  • Lead and motivate a small team of experts to deliver superior levels of output to the highest quality standards
  • Lead on maintaining, developing, and expanding LLI’s vessel tracking ability in line with market needs, product roadmap and business-approved budgets
  • Take the lead on research projects which identify future technologies and development of the product offering
  • Set up and maintain productive relationships with all vessel tracking data suppliers, ensuring they are governed by up-to-date agreements that are approved with the Informa Intelligence legal team, and that full utilisation, quality and value is gained from these supplier relationships
  • Set KPIs that track team performance and measure data outputs on an individual/regional and global basis
  • Develop a good understanding of technical networking protocols to ensure accurate and timely data is received
  • Ensure that a robust remedy process is in place for dealing with data supply service disruptions
  • Respond to vessel tracking client queries and provide team support on commercial tenders
  • Compile and maintain clear methodology and training documents across the team’s areas of focus
  • Work with a good level of autonomy and have a problem-solving innovative attitude to all work


·         Excellent written and spoken English language skills

·         Excellent interpersonal skills  

·         Ability to compile training methodology and feedback documents to drive output enhancements

·         Good database management skills

·         Ability to translate raw data and concepts into graphical reports and dashboards

·         Innovative and dynamic approach to problem-solving and process enhancements

·         Good project management skills, being able to articulate business justifications, set timelines, risks and milestones

·         Strong stakeholder management, across all areas of the business

·         Confident presentation skills for internal and external audiences


·         University degree at undergraduate (Bachelor) level or equivalent in a numerate discipline

·         Some prior experience of people management

·         Knowledge of SQL, Python or R, or other related software in data visualisation

·         Operational and commercial understanding of vessel tracking technologies and the competitive market
