Job Description

Position available for a Reviewer Selection Lead, Journals Peer Review, Taylor & Francis Group, New Delhi.

Taylor & Francis is looking for an ambitious publishing professional to manage a team supporting the peer review process for journals. We are seeking applicants who enjoy keeping up to date with the latest biomedical research, are detail-oriented, have great customer service skills and enjoy supervising a team.

The Reviewer Selection Lead, Journals Peer Review is accountable for efficient peer review processes using online submission and peer-review tracking systems, using tools such as PubMed Central to research international experts suitable to act as peer reviewers for cutting-edge life sciences and medical research.

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Reviewer Selection, the Reviewer Selection Lead will manage a team of Reviewer Selection Editors. With responsibility for the recruitment, performance management and training of their direct reports, the Reviewer Selection Lead controls resource allocation, ensuring effective team working and prioritization to accommodate competing demands. As such, this post would suit someone with experience in monitoring team progress, performance management and team building within a journal publishing environment. Familiarity with process improvements principles would be a distinct advantage as delivery of increased capacity with minimal impact on head count is a standing objective.

Accountabilities include:

  • Overall responsibility for the peer review process, with particular focus on reviewer selection steps, to agreed speed and quality targets

  • Overseeing reviewer selection support for a group of open access journals, preparing regular work reports for the vendor-based staff, monitoring the flow of manuscripts through peer review, and ensuring quality targets are met

  • Staying up to date with internal and external guidelines on ethical publication practices and ensuring the team also adhere to these standards

  • Creating, maintaining, and controlling process documentation

  • Team management, including maintenance of team workflows, process tracking and resource planning

  • Performance management, coaching and motivating a team to meet objectives and targets

  • Developing a collaborative team in which all members can make a positive contribution

  • Recruiting and training of new staff

  • Managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendor liaison

  • Involvement as required in Excellence in Peer Review: Taylor & Francis Reviewer Training Network


  • A post-graduate qualification in biomedical sciences
  • Prior experience with online submission platforms like ScholarOne™ or Editorial Manager® would be advantageous, although full training is available
  • A strong command of English spelling and grammar
  • Knowledge of publishing and production processes
  • Industry and market awareness
  • Experience in a customer-facing role
  • Experience of coaching, mentoring, and adapting to others’ learning styles
  • Understanding of skills and tools required for managing change
