Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Portfolio Manager to join our Routledge Humanities and Social Sciences team for an 18 month fixed term contract.  You will be responsible for the commercially effective management of a range of journals within the Humanities, Media and Arts team.

What you'll be doing:

  • Oversees long-term relationships with societies in order to maintain and protect current portfolio and create future opportunities 
  • Creates and delivers a business plan to grow, develop and maximize the profitability of given journals
  • Manages journal P&Ls to an agreed level of revenue and profitability under the direction of the Global Head of Portfolio, exceeding/meeting targets and objectives
  • Maintains a strong external focus e.g. attending conferences, editorial board meetings both in-person and virtual etc. creating profile and relevant networks in order to increase subject and customer knowledge and understanding
  • Proactively identifies and networks with new contacts to position T&F Journals as a centre of subject excellence and expertise 
  • Builds, maintains and shares a thorough knowledge of market need and competitor activity to inform decisions on product development
  • Publishes existing program to agreed plan


What we are looking for:

  • Ability to manage a portfolio of products/list of Journals to meet business growth objectives/or equivalent
  • Experience of building strong relationships or working with scholarly societies
  • Ability to manage P&L of Journal list/portfolio
  • Ability to read and interpret appropriate financial data
  • Excellent communication skills, oral, presentation and written
  • Strong team working skills, willing to collaborate, share knowledge and best practice to drive value
  • Resilient, self-reliant and resourceful, willing to ‘go the extra mile’ to drive customer and commercial value
  • Analytical thinking and logical response under pressure
  • Solution finding and decision making
  • Motivated to travel to and participate in external events and networks
  • Existing subject matter knowledge of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, or willingness to acquire such knowledge

Additional Information:
This role is offered on a fixed term basis of 18 months. You must have the right to work and live in the UK. This role is based from home in the UK although occasional travel to our office in Milton Park (once or twice a month) will be required (Covid-permitting)
