Job Description

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

The Payroll Specialist ensures timely and accurate processing of high-volume hourly and salaried payrolls, including review of automated data uploads, processing status change forms, legislated employee remittances and Records of Employment. 

  • Timely and accurate processing of high-volume payrolls for both salaried and hourly employees across Canada in compliance with employment standards legislation and company policies 
  • Timely and accurate processing of low-volume salaried and hourly payroll in the US 
  • Review and upload automated data interfaces (hours, employee changes etc.) 
  • Receive, review and action employee information changes (hires, terminations, increases) 
  • Process quarterly and annual bonus payments 
  • Prepare ad hoc payroll reports 
  • Produce Records of Employment; respond to all government agency inquiries 
  • Prepare or support manual journal entries, as required 
  • Assist with the preparation of government remittances 
  • Liaise with human resources or store management teams on payroll issues 
  • Maintain personnel files, including filing and/or digitizing 
  • Assist with the year-end process and production and distribution of T4s and W2s 
  • Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all decision-making and design processes 
  • Proactively identify and anticipate customer expectations and needs 
  • Embrace and seek out technology that creates high tech and high touch solutions for Indigo’s customers

Qualifications

WHO YOU ARE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance or Human Resources 
  • 3 years’ experience processing high volume payroll 
  • Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner preferred 
  • Experience with ADP payroll platforms, preferably PaySpecialist 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs, specifically MS Excel 
  • Experience processing US payroll is considered an asset 
  • Thorough understanding of payroll practices and related provincial and federal legislation 
  • Demonstrated problem solving, and crisis management skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • Ability to adapt to a quickly changing, fast-paced environment 
  • Team player
