Job Description
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The Category Manager is accountable for creating and implementing the vision, strategy, and direction of their overall portfolio, along with selecting and procuring merchandise that meets both financial goals and customer needs in Indigo’s stores and online. This individual is responsible for finding innovative ways to grow and support overall brand objectives, effectively working cross-functionally to execute upon strategies and plans.
• Set strategic plans for the Category, retail and online, that are consistent with overall company strategic plans
• Develop strategic assortment plans, merchandising direction, and select product for the Category to achieve key performance metrics
• Develop Seasonal Markdown and Marketing strategies. Recommend actions for markdowns to maximize sales and profits
• Deliver on Sales, Margin and Turn goals, for Retail and Online. Motivate direct reports to reach them
• Seek out and identify new opportunities to grow and expand category by benchmarking competition, spotting suitable trends, and finding new categories, products and best practices
• Lead key negotiations with Vendors to gain best possible terms of engagement, maintain positive vendor relationships focusing on finding new and brand appropriate merchandise
• Leads the development of Merchandising Plans that are consistent with overall merchandising calendar
• Strategize collaboratively with Planning & Allocations to ensure the most productive allocation of inventory by category and by store
• Analyze sales results and make appropriate decisions to drive the business
• Collaborate with Visual Merchandising to ensure Assortment Strategy is prioritized and properly reflected in in-store presentations
• Collaborates with Design and Product Development to ensure proprietary products fulfill strategy
• Collaborate with Marketing to ensure assortment strategy is properly communicated in marketing materials
• Lead quarterly assortment reviews
• Ensures the implementation and compliance of operating standards and practices across entire line of business
• Partner with Planning Manager to manage Open-to Buy (OTB)/business performance in-season to maximize sales opportunities, and support ACM in monitoring Retail OTB
• Prepare and execute quarterly Hindsights, Category Strategies and Line Reviews, with the assistance of ACM
• Ensure the completion of team deliverables and set/adhere to team budgets, as applicable
• Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all design and decision-making processes
• Proactively identify and anticipate customer expectations and needs
• Embrace and seek out technology that creates high tech and high touch solutions for Indigo’s customers
• Challenge the status quo and consistently identify areas for improvement, diagnose issues and working to resolve them
Qualifications
WHO YOU ARE:
• 5+ years Retail experience or equivalent business-related experience
• 2+ years of experience as a Category Manager within Home Décor
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics or equivalent
• Up to 40% travel to Market and/or stores
