Job Description

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule after a successful on-site onboarding period. The hybrid work schedule includes a bank of 60 days/year to be used as remote days on Tuesdays or Thursdays only. This position is located in our Bloomington, Indiana, office. The salary range for this role is $55,000–$58,000.

The Indiana University Foundation is seeking a Marketing Writer to join our talented in-house team of writers, designers, and web developers. From emails to video scripts to feature stories to digital ads and more, you’ll have the chance to flex your creative muscle in a variety of media and use your talents to advance the mission of Indiana University. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across the IU Foundation, IU Alumni Association, and Indiana University, seeing projects through from concept to execution. As a Marketing Writer, you’ll have the opportunity to write engaging feature stories, fundraising solicitations, stewardship communications, and advertising copy. Your work will span a wide range of channels, including websites, emails, social media, direct mail, events, and other marketing collateral, as well as scripts for video projects and presentations. The ideal candidate brings a genuine passion for writing and storytelling, thrives in a collaborative environment, and feels confident building relationships with stakeholders and generating enthusiasm for shared goals. You’ll be expected to approach each project with strategic thinking, communicate clearly with both colleagues and clients, and manage the balance between deadlines, expectations, and creative quality.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing, or related field required
  • Minimum of 3 years of writing and editing experience, preferably with a marketing focus.
  • Experience in an agency, media, academic, or nonprofit setting preferred.
    • Combination of education and professional experience will be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Excellent writing, editing, and creative concepting abilities
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills
  • Familiarity with marketing concepts, strategies, and tactics
  • Ability to write strategically and effectively across a wide range of formats and audiences
  • Proven skill as a thoughtful copy editor and content strategist for both print and digital
  • Understanding of how written and visual elements work together for impact
  • Exceptional organizational initiative and attention to process (e.g., following process conventions, templates, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Naturally outgoing with strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills
  • Proactive problem-solver who is not afraid to ask questions or offer suggestions
  • Demonstrated ability to work in service-oriented, client-based relationships
  • Experience using PC and Mac platforms; strong grasp of current communication tools
  • A general understanding of fundraising/advancement principles is a plus
  • Commitment to high standards, team spirit, and a mission-driven mindset
