Job Description
- Plan, organize, lead and control information and analytical model development through the Data Visualization and Decision Support team, to ensure support for informed decision making at operational, tactical and strategic levels of the organization.
- Lead the model development life cycle, including data preparation, ingestion and integration, feature engineering, model engineering, and model evaluation. Build data from company systems into an analytical model that provides trends and patterns relating to any short-term insurance metrics. Demonstrate functionality of built BI models to target audience as per business request.
- Identify and communicate the actions needed to implement the function’s strategy and business plan within the business area or department; explain the relationship to the broader organization’s mission vision and values; motivate people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
- Plan all business and technical aspects of different data and analytics systems and platforms. Understand features and properties, ensure data integrity of new and existing tracking, and own the maintenance and administrative functions of these systems and platforms.
- Identify and manage stakeholders up to management level, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
- Use data from a wide range of sources to analyse key themes and identify possible impacts on the business. Recommendations could be technical or professional in nature.
- Contribute to the design and creation of reporting strategies and templates. Lead execution of complex reports, identifying and interpreting complex patterns and trends, and translating those insights into actionable recommendations.
- Manage key aspects of the data management system with guidance from senior colleagues. This includes being responsible for developing or operating key elements of the system.
- Manage and report on the performance of a substantial, diverse team; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project / account team members and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team / personal objectives.
- Set clearly defined objectives and plan activities and projects well in advance and takes account of possible changing circumstances. Identify shortcomings in existing process and suggest and implement improvements. Manage time effectively and identify and organize resources needed to accomplish tasks. Monitor performance against deadlines and milestones.
- Work within existing development framework to build own capabilities and those of direct reports. Provide specialized training or coaching to others throughout the organization in area of expertise. Consult others and shares information and expertise with them and adapt to the team. Recruit staff of a high calibre and provide staff with development opportunities (coaching, mentoring, training etc.). Set appropriate standards of behaviour and build and support retention strategies.
- Highlight shortcomings in compliance processes, systems and procedures and suggest appropriate improvements. Work is focused on an assigned unit or discipline.
- Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team and beyond in the function. Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging technologies, external regulation, and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
- Identify product training needs and develop product training courses to fill gaps in existing programs, methods, or tools; run training programs for specific areas using prepared content.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Business Management, Statistics, Economics or similar (bachelor’s degree requirement might be waived with proven specialized training/certifications) (Essential)
- Majoring in Statistics or Data Science (Advantageous)
- 5 or more years development experience within a business intelligence environment (Essential) Financial Services industry, Qlik Development experience and Consulting experience (Advantageous)
- 3 or more years’ experience in planning and managing resources to deliver predetermined objectives, as specified by more senior managers (Essential)
