Job Description

My client is looking for a Lab Technician who will evaluate coatings and metal powders to ensure that metallurgical requirements and performance specifications are met. The company is a global manufacturer of coatings, used to protect machinery and parts that operate in corrosive or high friction environments. This position might also be referred to as a Metallographer, Metallurgy Lab Technician, Coatings Analysis Technician, or Metallography Technician. This job is located on Long Island, NY. You will prepare and evaluate coated specimens. Section, mount, grind and polish specimens. Evaluate, analyze, characterize coatings using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) / EDX analysis, superficial and micro-hardness tests, surface profilometry tests, optical microscopy including image analysis. Perform thermal cycling and adhesion testing. Prepare reports, improving processes and testing methods, improve lab housekeeping and safety.

Qualifications

AAS degree plus at least three to five years’ experience as a lab technician in a metallographic testing laboratory. Will develop, and maintain internal laboratory standard operating procedures, work instructions and equipment calibrations. Should have detailed knowledge about metallography, microscopy, coating analysis or wear/thermal testing of coatings. Should be familiar with common scientific laboratory procedures, and writing of technical and engineering laboratory reports.
