Job Description

Take an active role in the development of the Mexico customs import landscape and provide support in the implementation of the country customs strategy. In this role, you are required to support the Country Customs Manager and help support an efficient process of the import related activities and other customs and compliance controls with internal and external partners.

  • Monitor local rules and legislation related with import and export, analyse and communicate with stakeholders on potential business impact in due time.
  • Team up with Product Requirement and Compliance (PR&C), Logistics and other pertaining departments to proactively identify potential non-compliance customs issues along the import process.
  • Report to Customs Management team and interact with IKEA of Sweden Customs Contact Centre on a timely manner in any relevant customs legislation that may have an impact to IKEA Mexico.
  • Support the IKEA Mexico Service Office common and individual annual business plan, follow up and deliver agreed results.
  • Responsible for following up on local and global directives, Standard Operational Procedures and Working Methods related to customs and other relevant IKEA subjects.
  • Support customs audits including entry data, IKEA mandated Working Methods and Standard Operational Procedures.
  • Responsible for securing dynamic matrix working relations with the Finance Department to proactively report import duties, drawbacks, budget calculations, etc….
  • Develop Key Performance indicator to supervise and manage the entire customs department, including brokers/forwarder’s performance in order to secure a compliant import process to contribute in making available the most competitive price for the many in Mexico.
  • Stay up to date on applicable product legislation and standards. This includes all relevant product customs compliance and standardization related laws and topics at a local and international level.

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge in import and export related rules, regulations and customs process
  • 5 years + experience in food, furniture, electronics, textile, steel imports
  • Previous involvement in the logistics field including warehousing, transport, distribution, E-Commerce
  • Customs Laws (Ley Aduanera, TIGIE, etc)
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written) with solid negotiating skills in English and Spanish languages
  • Relevant experience in regulations such as, COFEPRIS, SENASICA, PROFEPA, SADER, etc.
  • HS Code classification
  • Import permits (textile, footwear, iron /steel items)
  • NOMs
  • Free Trade Agreement
  • Experience dealing with government Authorities
  • Excel skills
  • University degree in relevant field preferably International business
