Job Description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Engineering Manager within ITW’s Commercial Construction North America Division, the Lab Technician will support testing of mechanical and adhesive anchoring solutions for structural applications. This role focuses on conducting concrete anchor and metal fastener testing at the Lake Forest Testing Laboratory to ensure compliance with industry standards.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Understand and perform testing in accordance with applicable standards (UL, FM, Building Code, ICC-ES, etc.)
  • Conduct product testing in concrete, drywall, and metal decking
  • Work with team leaders to collect data and perform analysis to communicate to the teams.
  • Write detailed and accurate reports summarizing test results and findings
  • Responsible for inventory and maintenance of all test equipment, test fixtures, tools, and laboratory supplies to be used for testing.
  • Maintain laboratory files including testing procedures, test results, concrete inventory, equipment records and calibrations, and monthly equipment verification checks.
  • Promptly report and document any equipment malfunctions or repairs needed
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and professional laboratory environment, ensuring all testing and storage areas are well-organized

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical, vocational training, or Bachelor Degree of Engineering Technology is a plus.
  • Proven experience in a laboratory or construction testing environment, preferably with concrete or mechanical anchors.
  • Strong understanding of test standards related to concrete anchors.
  • Ability to operate power tools and heavy machinery safely and effectively.
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Familiarity with Solidworks or other 3D CAD systems
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills with internal / external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean working environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience working with concrete, including drilling, installing fasteners, and conducting testing.
  • 3-5 years of experience in product testing using advanced testing equipment, such as MTS, Instron, or equivalent systems.
  • Ability to set up, calibrate, and maintain testing equipment to ensure accurate results.
  • Familiarity with testing and evaluation procedures for mechanical anchors in compliance with industry standards.
  • Experience using CAD and simulation tools to analyze and support test designs.
