Job Description
Pay range $20.00 - $21.00/hour based on experience, plus $0.75/hour shift premium. We provide opportunity for pay and skill advancement through our operator level program, and a safety-first work environment.
2nd shift hours are M-F 2:00pm to 10:30pm.
The primary responsibility of this position is to set up and operate equipment used to mix and grind materials to produce quality dispersions, inks and intermediates. Operators are also responsible to accurately perform color matching and adjustments, and test and approve inks for production.
Essential Job Duties
- Following batch ticket instructions, set up and operate a variety of high-speed mixers and mills (ball, horizontal, Kady mills). Select batch, weigh materials, select mill utilizing proper equipment.
- Operate vat and drum washer and keep them maintained.
- Check flow rates, adjust variables (flow rate, particle size, viscosity, temperature) for proper grind. Monitor viscosity and grind during operation.
- Perform physical testing and drawdowns including NVM, viscosity, grind, and solids. Perform basic color matching using naked eye. Review results vs formula and color and inform manager of off quality. Document results and approve for production.
- Use forklift to move materials as necessary.
- Maintain all equipment. Perform thorough cleaning and washing of drums, vats, etc. as required. Also perform preventive maintenance including lube and oil of machines.
- Use computer to run batch tickets, enter data, adjust inventory, process batches and log lot numbers, etc. Complete all proper paperwork, including batch tickets, Quality Control documents and inventory control documentation and drum/vat labeling.
- Set up, operate and troubleshoot automated PLC based still.
- Occasional lifting/carrying 0 – 55 lbs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Machine operator or related chemical/ink batch making experience preferred, with Forklift driving experience a plus.
- Basic computer experience including data entry, inventory adjustment, navigation of multiple screens, etc.
- Good communication including ability to follow verbal instructions, read and write instructions, and calculation skills involving formulas, percentages, weights and fractions.
- Dependable, and flexible in working hours, various shifts and/or overtime as needed.
- The physical requirements include constant standing/walking; frequent use of upper extremities and twisting/turning; occasional climbing, reaching, overhead work, and bending/squatting/kneeling; ability to lift/carry up to 55 lbs.; ability to push/pull 50-100 lbs. with handling equipment assistance; and adequate visually acuity to perform color matching and identify production quality defects.
