Job Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for driving technical development and innovation within the project team and to the wider business. They will work on a variety of projects that includes developing & supporting products.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will support Engineering Managers and Principal Engineers in managing all phases of technical projects and oversees products through their life cycle. The candidate will conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare reports for company leadership. They will also provide technical mentoring to less experienced Engineers.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Produce designs in-line with requirements and all quality and technical standards for Hydraulic and Electro-Mechanical complex systems.
  • Perform technical investigations, including evaluation of technical options, supporting calculations and preparing technical reports with clear recommendations.
  • Produce technical drawings, general assembly drawings and bill of material.
  • Organise reviews to present findings for approval of work packages as part of Project Management process.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends and developments.
  • Mentor less experienced Engineers and create a space where they can ask questions and voice their concerns.
  • Own the critical analysis of technical and project risks and reports findings to the Program Team about challenges, failures, and successes.
  • Support Principal engineers with patent writing activities
  • Participate in the intrinsic safety and compliance of the overall design.

Key Competencies

  • Advanced mechanical engineering skills with proven competence that includes theoretical (first principals) and an analytical approach to design.
  • Ability to lead engineering development tasks and influence the work of other Engineers
  • Good experience with CAD packages
  • Ability to communicate technical details effectively and with enthusiasm, often to people from a non-technical background
  • Ability to lead the review of product specifications.
  • Ability to work effectively with other engineering disciplines in the delivery of the system

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Key experiences

  • Demonstrable experience creating and supporting high technology products
