Job Description

Using ITW's 80/20 business philosophies and toolbox methodologies, this position is to develop safe and capable processes ensuring product quality, equipment effectiveness, and efficient labor utilization through the correct combination of technology, equipment, tooling, training, and communication.

Responsibilities (80% Core Essential Functions)

  • Lead assigned hourly team in development and implementation of continuous improvement and world class lean manufacturing practices to improve:
  • Improvement of safety results - analysis of close calls and determination of root cause and counter measures
  • Monitor and coach employee’s compliance on safety and quality processes
  • Train & coach hourly employees in safe, effective assembly methods
  • Simplification of work processes, improvement of labor efficiency, and product throughput improvements
  • Support inventory replenishment processes for months On Hand and market rate of demand (MRD) targets
  • Ability to work from part and product drawings, manufacturing schedules and various documents required to conclude assignments
  • Ability to assess resource utilization using time studies, line balancing, and/or labor reassignment to efficiently staff production lines
  • Review assembly processes to identify and eliminate bottlenecks
  • Investigate and implement advanced manufacturing methods and technologies:
  • Make recommendations on new equipment to target safety and throughput improvements
  • Train employees and become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the new equipment
  • Prepare appropriate request documentation to financially support capital equipment requests
  • Manage the timely and effective implementation of projects
  • Submit annual capital planning budget recommendations
  • Work with the design department to timely and effectively introduce new products, product enhancements, or changes, including pilot production run.
  • Create design ECN’s (Engineering Change Notice) via Bill Of Material (BOM) and method maintenance for assigned products
  • Develop and revise SOPs (Standard Operating Process) as required using best practices
  • Review workplace layouts and assist in developing plant layouts.
  • Identify and implement product cost reductions\
  • Resolve assembly pain points and use ECN process to implement appropriate changes
  • Remediate internal and vendor quality issues 

Responsibilities (20% Business-specific functions)

  • Assist business unit management in preparation of annual operating plan
  • Procure needed production perishable supplies and small tools
  • Prepare manufacturing analysis and reports as necessary
  • Prepare manufacturing workplace layout digital documentation as necessary
  • Provide occasional backup to other personnel in business unit as assigned.
  • Organize and maintain production tools.
  • Learn and utilize ITW Toolbox to influence decision making.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • BS in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing or operations environment supervising plant floor operations personnel.
  • Understanding the use of lean manufacturing analysis techniques and implementation of their tools.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of manual MIG and TIG welding processes on stainless steel
  • Understanding and implementation of electro-mechanical final assembly process
  • Understanding of metal fabrication process
  • Understanding of gas fired and/or electrical cooking appliance construction

  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Technical writing skills utilizing data to drive capital equipment justifications

  • Hands-on approach to problem solving
  • Working knowledge and experience with robotic welding processes
  • Proficient use of CAD applications (i.e., SolidWorks, Pro E, AutoCAD)

Additional Information

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to stand or walk for duration of 10 hours
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, reach and twist to complete all job task
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE (i.e., safety glasses, gloves, steel/composite toe safety shoes)
  • Week/Weekend overtime as necessary
