Job Description

As a Mechanical Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical repair activities and associated ship components.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Anticipate, prepare, organize, and supervise propulsion line and general mechanical works onboard vessels.
  • Ensure technical coordination and compliance with safety procedures on site.
  • Supervise mechanical activities during vessel maintenance periods, both afloat and in dry dock.
  • Carry out end-of-shift inspections, including worksite safety checks and personnel clearance.
  • Ensure required equipment and tools are available, properly used, and maintained in good condition during and after operations.
  • Guarantee work quality, deadlines, and safety standards for all supervised mechanical activities.
  • Prepare compliance control, traceability, and quality follow-up documentation.
  • Write technical intervention and work completion reports.
  • Use standard metrology and measurement equipment such as calipers, depth gauges, vernier micrometers, internal micrometers, dial indicators, etc.
  • Participate in the preparation of schedules and planning required for work management.
  • Define internal and external training actions to develop the skills of mechanics and machinists.
  • Contribute directly to team development through knowledge transfer, implementation of best practices, and targeted training related to safety and quality improvement plans.

Qualifications

  • French speaking is a +++++
  • Technical degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering, marine engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field.
  • Proven experience supervising mechanical operations in a naval or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of marine propulsion maintenance, including propeller shafts, bow thrusters, reduction gearboxes, and propulsion systems.
  • Good hydraulic knowledge for the repair and maintenance of winches, capstans, and associated equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret supplier manuals, technical documentation, mechanical drawings, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Experience performing shaft alignment and alignment of mechanical equipment such as propulsion engines, gearboxes, pumps, and similar systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to propose effective repair solutions.
  • Ability to identify manpower, equipment, and material requirements for mechanical project quotations.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to supervise and train technical teams.
  • Technical English proficiency is mandatory.
  • Previous experience in a WAS-type environment is considered an advantage.
