Company Description

The Start-up & Transition Senior Engineer supports the Start-up & Transition Manager throughout the pre‑handover and post‑handover phases of LNG Train delivery.

Before Handover: the role ensures that the EPC Contractor complies with contractual obligations and that the LNG Trains have reached handover readiness.

After Handover: the role leads start-up (SU) activities for the company, provides technical expertise, and supports performance testing and early operations of the LNG Trains.

Key Responsibilities

HSE Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all HSE policies, compliance rules, confidentiality standards, and operational procedures.
  • Provide leadership in implementing health, safety, and environmental management systems.
  • Identify HS&E hazards, assess and control risks, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Report accidents, incidents, and near-misses according to procedures.
  • Support and improve the ISO 14001 environmental management system.
  • Attend mandatory HSE training.

Responsibilities Before Handover

  • Develop subsystem start-up sequences.
  • Participate in preparation and execution (witnessing) of critical commissioning activities.
  • Review and comment on the Red Spade Register.
  • Verify EPC Contractor compliance with contractual obligations and handover readiness.
  • Coordinate multi‑discipline reviews of:
    • Commissioning completion dossiers
    • RFSU dossiers
    • Outstanding RFSU punch lists
    • Key as-built documents (PFDs, P&IDs, ESD logic diagrams, F&G matrix, etc.)
    • Operating manuals (including vendor manuals)
    • Operating and start-up procedures
  • Participate in reviewing and developing start-up procedures, including modifications required to align with company standards.
  • Develop and validate start-up procedures using the OTS (Operator Training Simulator).
  • Participate in RFSU walk-downs with the EPC Contractor.
  • Witness ESD/EDP/F&G cause-and-effect testing.
  • Define the vendor mobilization plan for the post-handover period.

Responsibilities After Handover

  • Lead LNG Train start-up activities in close collaboration with Production teams.
  • Participate in daily SIMOPS meetings with Contractor/Company teams.
  • Revise vendor mobilization plans based on start-up findings.
  • Ensure the EPC Contractor mobilizes vendors according to the approved plan.
  • Ensure accurate vendor reporting (daily reports, diagnostics, recommendations).
  • Assist in the execution of performance tests and review final reports issued by the EPC Contractor.
  • Recommend updates to operational procedures and process improvements based on plant performance.
  • Support operations personnel in troubleshooting technical issues and in capital project engineering for plant modifications.
  • Assist with planning short-duration shutdowns triggered by major technical issues.
  • Support preparation of warranty claims by providing technical input.

Qualifications

Technical Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of LNG processes and start-up operations.
  • Strong understanding of HSE and environmental management systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of the permit-to-work (PTW) system used in the oil & gas sector.
  • Proficiency with common computer applications (Windows, Office).
  • Excellent English communication skills, written and spoken.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Applied Science, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in start-up and operations of LNG production plants (not LNG terminals).

Additional Information

  • Starting date : September 2026
  • Duration : 2 years in Milan (resident), then 2 years in Mozambique in rotation
