Job Description

The Mechanical Quality Engineer is responsible for resolving quality-related assembly & test issues on the production floor, identifying opportunities for streamlining or improving existing processes and implementing root cause for all discrepancies in production and on product returned by INFICON’s customers. This individual will need to possess strong troubleshooting skills and a solid grasp of the fundamentals of statistical process capability. They will need to be able to create clear and detailed procedure documents for usage by production technicians and be strong at identifying the root-cause of an issue while also being able to develop robust solutions to prevent recurrence. They should also be strong at identifying inefficiencies in production processes and be able to propose & implement solutions that will lead to improvements.

Qualifications

  • Disposition discrepant production material and outline the steps necessary to re-work parts whenever possible
  • Provide support on the production floor for any issues related to build & test quality
  • Isolate and troubleshoot issues that occur during production testing
  • Perform basic tolerance stack-up analysis to isolate the source of issues on the production floor between design or manufacturing
  • Work with suppliers to determine the cause of supplier manufacturing or performance issues and work to modify requirements outlined in the Engineering documents to better align to our final product requirements and supplier capabilities
  • Perform investigations using the 8D methodology to ensure quality issues are contained and that future occurrences are eliminated on all major warranty claims and internal discrepant material
  • Ensure that failures and issues related to Inficon’s suppliers are addressed through the supplier corrective-action (SCAR) process
  • Use statistical analysis tools and methodologies to perform Statistical Process Capability (SPC) studies on current production build & test processes
  • Identify design & test specifications that have been poorly defined or over-constrained and act as the liaison between suppliers and/or the production floor and Design Engineering to help better define the specifications necessary
  • Work to ensure both internal & external customers are satisfied with the team’s response in dealing with the inevitable quality issues that arise in a manufacturing organization
  • Work jointly on a near-daily basis with Inficon’s production technicians & supervisors, supply-chain, product center, engineering and production automation teams

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimal requirement BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with 2+ years’ experience
  • Demonstrated ability to perform troubleshooting and failure isolation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GD&T
  • Experience in high cleanliness, tight tolerance, and high mix manufacturing environments is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 8D process & root-cause analysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge in implementing, monitoring, and deriving value from Statistical Process Control (SPC)

Additional Information

For New York, the expected salary range for this position is between $60,000 and $100,000 per year. In addition, INFICON employees are eligible for a profit sharing bonus with a target of 10%.  The actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law
