Job Description

Summary:

Responsible for all quality issues related to producing orders to customer specifications, works with production to improve efficiencies and product performance, accurately records and reports test data, works with R&D to develop and improve products.  Manages process with maximum efficiency in a safe and cost-efficient manner.

Shift: Rotating 1st and 2nd

    Major Job Functions:

    1.    Testing:  Examines raw materials and materials produced to assure conformance with manufacturing/ customer specifications.  Must be able to perform any and all lab test methods and follow verbal and/or written work instructions.   Prepare Certificates of Analysis (COA’s) for customer order shipments.  Perform routine and specialized testing and refer to TAPPI Test Method book as a primary resource for such tests as COBB, WVTR, tensile, etc.  All testing must be completed in a timely, accurate, and cost-efficient manner to reduce production machine downtime and limit non-conforming material. 

    2.    Documentation, Reporting & Labeling:    Utilizing paper and electronic logs, record observations of conformance/non-conformance of raw materials and materials produced, machine settings, and process/equipment conditions so that quality issues can be accurately and efficiently tracked.  Is responsible to ensure that all retains, finished goods, WIP, trials, and holds are properly labeled.  Is responsible for communication flow of production process by alerting operators and supervisors quickly and accurately about potential, developing, or actual problems. 

    3.    Product Disposition:  Initiate Quality Alerts to ensure that all relevant information needed for disposition is captured accurately.  After notifying proper production and quality personnel of non-conforming material, responsible to ensure that material is segregated and stored appropriately (e.g. hold, RGA, butt) for later inventory disposal or re-working.  Must escort that material during the inventorying and disposition process ensuring that all steps and documentation have been completed thoroughly.  Records should be accurate for auditing purposes.

    4.    Continual Process Improvement:  Works closely with Plant and Quality leaders and personnel to improve productivity.  Initiates ideas and develops proposals for improving quality of everything we do as measured by our customers and for reducing costs.  Work individually and in teams to identify and investigate quality problems, determine root causes, and implement solutions to improve quality and process performance.

    Quality

    • Is responsible to ensure that finished product quality meets our internal production specifications and customer specifications.   Has overall responsibility for his/her own time management, job efficiency, reporting, response time, accuracy of work, testing & computer skills, and personal development…all to meet the requirements of an ever improving Quality Department.  Is self-directed and has confidence and ability to work independently to meet goals of department.

    Job Expectations: 

    • Operates to the highest level of safety while on the premises; is aware of all safety procedures and takes appropriate safety measures for this equipment.  Wears PPE where required in plant buildings, reports all safety related issues and incidences, and follows all safety policies & procedures. 
    • Maintains high standards in housekeeping throughout work area and assists as required in other areas of the facility and grounds.Treats others with dignity and respect at all times
    • Complies with all company policies and procedures
    • Is on time for all required company meetings
    • Adheres to all time and attendance rules (at work at the beginning of scheduled shift and remains until the end of scheduled shift.)  Overtime when scheduled is required.  Shifts are normally fixed, but can rotate in order to back fill when other operators are on scheduled leaves or absent.

    Qualifications

    Education, Experience, Skills

    • Minimum High School Diploma; 2 years college and 2-3 years quality lab experience preferred.
    • Must be able to communicate fluently in English (reading & writing); must have good math skills.
    • ASQ Certification a plus
    • Must have soundly demonstrated experience in computer applications such as Excel, Access, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. 

    Physical Attributes:

    • Must be able to push, pull, lift up to  25 pounds, climb or balance, twist, turn, bend, stand, sit, work in tight spaces, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, finger, feel, speak/talk, hear, see, smell.
