We want to fill this position with a strong and passionate experienced architect, who has a keen sense of commerciality and attention to details, capable of driving our ambitious projects by supporting the Property & Expansion team in the execution of the IKEA Guadalajara store, enabling to position IKEA as the Leader in life at home in the Mexico.

  • Reporting to the Construction Project Manager in Mexico and in matrix to the Design Manager IKEA, you will work close together with the design team and play a crucial role in preparing, planning and executing of this new IKEA store in Mexico.
  • The primary role of the Design Manager Project (DMP) is to safeguard that the original architectural design concept is protected and synergies between the different building components are being maximized.
  • The DMP is the design interface between external design consultants and internal IKEA Mexico design resources. The DMP is the natural speaking partner towards architects, Project Management DM and planning specialists. He/she will lead and manage them and work through the consultant team to ensure the right implementation of the IKEA Conceptual Drawings, IKEA standards and IKEA technical design guidelines, following IKEA best built references, so the project design goals are met. The DMP will daily work with the Retail Project Manager, who is responsible for the IKEA fit-out.
  • To integrate technical information and statutory requirements into design and production drawings, including assisting in the preparation of drawings for planning and building control approval, tender and construction purposes.
  • Support in adapting global solutions to the market conditions and specifics, in order to secure relevance, attractiveness and competiveness of the IKEA Brand in the local market and create the framework for the home furnishing presentation.
  • The DMP will manage the Design Development from Investment Request 2 up until project conclusion.
  • The IKEA values, Scandinavian and Democratic Design principles will be used as design tools to develop the IKEA store for our visitors. The Democratic Design principles focus on the balance and importance of Form, Function, Quality, Sustainability and Low price (cost-consciousness for a high long-term yield).

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of Architectural background.
  • You are a qualified Architect with minimum 10 years of Architectural background with minimum of 3 years of retail design experience in the detailed design, tender design and construction design phases.
  • Preferred experience in Mexico or similar markets in large-scale architectural design projects such as Shopping Centers, retail, commercial, mixed use, residential, urban design/master planning.
  • Decision making skills at strategic, tactical and operational levels in guiding and managing the work of multi-disciplinary teams including consultants and design/construction professionals.
  • In-depth knowledge of retail development typologies, their feasibility requirements, constraints and brief development
  • You have passion not only for retail architecture but also for projects coordination and management.
  • Results driven, a dynamic team player & able to work with minimum supervision. Highly independent with the ability to multi-task and able to work under pressure.
  • High experience in AutoCAD, ArchiCAD or Revit required, supplemented with other programs such as, Rhino3D, 3dsMax, Photoshop and Microsoft office
  • You are fluent in English and Spanish and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • You maintain good relationship with people at all levels and are committed in meeting deadlines.
  • You believe working through people, are self-motivated, levelheaded, analytical, and have a strong desire to initiate and influence change.
  • Previous IKEA Experience is regarded as very valuable.
