Job Description

We are seeking a part-time Senior Landscape Architect with urban (and non-urban) design experience across a wide array of project types. This role will have the ability to mange complex projects and provide peer reviews for our team of project managers , landscape architects and urban designers in the Calgary studio. We work in a dynamic environment creating contemporary, innovative, inclusive, responsive, sustainable public and private high-quality spaces including civic plazas, parks, resorts, streetscape and pedestrian centric urban design projects. You will have excellent design skills and be involved in all phases of the project from master planning, engagement, conceptual design through to detailed design, tendering and contract administration.

 

Role accountabilities:

  • Across diverse and sometime numerous projects, this person quickly identifies design issues and produces diverse, yet viable design solutions.
  • Understands and reviews technical detailing and review construction drawing packages from our team of landscape architects and technologists, contributing to all aspects of the design process.
  • Ability to straddle all aspects of landscape architectural tasks from inception to completion.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Membership (active or non-active)  of AALA and CSLA
  • Fifteen  (15) or more years of experience in a wide range of projects types described above.  
  • Experience leading project teams
  • An ability to mentor junior staff, technologists and interns.  
  • Strong communication skills, both visually, verbal and written,  including production of technical and design reports, including and ability  articulate, present, and inspire others with your ideas. 
  • Work in close collaboration with the Calgary team and potentially the west region placemaking team.
  • Thrive within a multi-disciplinary environment within Arcadis and external consultants to design and deliver creative, context-sensitive urban (and non-urban) environments and landscape solutions that support public and private sector projects.
  • Manage project workflows and oversee internal production and project deliverables.
  • Ensure project deliverables comply with local standards and contract requirements. 
  • Proven leadership in design excellence with demonstrated high quality work.
  • In-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of the Landscape Architecture such as planting, grading, storm water management, construction detailing, specifications and cost estimation.
  • Detail-oriented, able to multi-task and can work independently and take initiative within a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
