Job Description

Arcadis is seeking a Project Engineer with Contract Administrator responsibilities. This is a typical engineering role with strong focus on Contract Administration phase of Projects that are under construction.   The role combines knowledge of Office Functions and Field Functions in making sure that the Project is being implemented in accordance with the approved building design and Construction contract.

Reporting to the Project Manager, this position will be based out of our Etobicoke office located at 175 Galaxy Blvd with regular site visits to the Hamilton project location and others, as required.  We would like to supplement our existing team with an individual familiar with engineering design, understanding of multidisciplinary design contract documents, project budgeting and costing, construction methods, project delivery schedules and a desire to work in a collaborative team environment. Role accountabilities:

  • Communicate with the Owner, the Contractor and the Consultant team
  • Interpret the Contract Documents and issue appropriate instructions to the Contractor
  • Coordinate and issue Site Instructions for revisions that do not affect the Contract price
  • Manage multidisciplinary RFI responses and respond to Requests For Information (RFIs) from the contractor to provide clarity and direction
  • Manage and coordinate design changes and issue Contemplated Change Notices to the Contractor.  Review Contractor pricing and make recommendations for payment
  • Carry out periodic field review, monitor progress of work to ensure compliance with the Contract Documents
  • Attend regular construction bi-weekly site meetings
  • Prepare and Issue Site Visit reports
  • Advise the Contractor when construction results are incorrect
  • Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCR’s) when required
  • Review Inspection and Testing reports by 3rd parties
  • Compile punch list of non-compliant work; monitor resolution of deficiencies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum University Degree in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or the equivalent experience on industrial, multi-discipline facility projects.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of Design and Construction experience on industrial facility projects.
  • Must be able to read and understand construction contract documents
  • Registration with PEO is mandatory;
  • Project Management Professional designation is an asset;
  • Knowledge of construction practices; procedures and quality assurance techniques;
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong communication, and negotiation skills with an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as well as be able to independently write correspondence;
  • Strong project management and coordination skills with a keen ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work effectively;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint;
  • This is an Office based position that requires travel.  Therefore, a valid Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
