Job Description

 

 

Position Summary:

 

Whilst working for IBI Group, part of your role will be to study for a Data Scientist Apprenticeship at the University of Nottingham over a 42-month period. This includes an integrated BSc (Hons) Data Science degree. A minimum of 20% of your time will be spent undertaking blended learning via the University – this combines remote online learning and face to face block release workshops delivered in Nottingham.

In summary, the Apprenticeship programme includes the understanding and management of large data sets, data analysis and data science problem solving to include statistics, algorithm design and computer programming – this is deployed within IBI Group to seek out data and business opportunities where you can apply the techniques learned.

 

Entry requirement for the course are:

 

  • Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics or equivalent and Grade 4 in GCSE English Language or equivalent (prior to admission)

 

with

 

  • BBB at A-Level, to include Mathematics - A levels in Citizenship Skills, General Studies, and Critical Thinking are not accepted

 

or

 

  • Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship with Merit or Distinction

 

 

This role is based in our Newark office and within our GIS (Geographic Information Systems) business working on our RouteMapper product – IBI Group’s Mobile Mapping system. RouteMapper provides a powerful combination of high-resolution digital imagery and LiDAR with inertial positioning.

 

The end product enables our clients to perform a vast range of surveys and inspections in an office environment and RouteMapper surveys have been performed for government agencies, local authorities, maintaining agents, rail and bus operators, telecommunications companies and airport authorities throughout Europe, North America, The Middle East and Asia.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Processing the captured raw GPS / IMU data into a format used by our desktop software
  • Preparation of background mapping from various sources and types, i.e. Ordnance Survey Land-line®, Ordnance Survey Mastermap®, or Raster and Aerial photography
  • Various querying methods within GIS or other databases
  • Preparation of image data for use within the desktop and internet applications
  • Review of imagery and LiDAR in desktop and online viewers

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Ideally qualifications in the Information Technology field
  • A willingness to learn and to raise questions when unsure of how to perform a task
  • Able to work to deadlines
