As a result of our continued growth and full slate of projects, IBI Group is currently seeking a talented and driven Project Manager with strong land development engineering experience for our Ottawa office.  As a technical expert on Urban Development Engineering, this role will see you taking a leading position in one of Ottawa’s leading Land Development Engineering firms and collaborating with multiple partners to offer a truly innovative approach for our clients. Taking on responsibility for business development and project management, you will have the opportunity to shape and develop your own portfolio of work. The successful candidate will come from a Land Development/Municipal Infrastructure background who is a clear, confident communicator ready to further their career by taking on more responsibility and expanding their technical, commercial and creative skills.  You will provide civil and municipal technical and design leadership services on a wide variety of projects primarily within the suburban and urban redevelopment sectors. 

Our Ottawa office is multidisciplinary and houses a strong Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources and Architecture team!  This team is a close-knit, dynamic group that prides itself on its involvement within the community and charitable events

Most Of What You’ll Be Doing

  • To lead and support various members of the team to deliver solutions in any or all of the following main areas:
    • Manage largescale land development projects, including mixed-use and commercial development projects
    • Provide strategic direction and management to project teams in framing infrastructure problems and identifying key technical issues/questions at the beginning of projects
    • Provide direction in development of project and policy recommendations
    • Ensure engineering designs are in compliance with current applicable regulations 
  • To lead business development and develop the team:
    • Engage in business development and project management
    • Identify and pursue business development opportunities
    • Build and maintain relationships with governmental and quasi-governmental entities, real estate and business groups, civic and community organizations, cultural and professional organizations, and advocacy groups
    • Represent IBI at meetings with clients and other professionals
    • Provide overall guidance to junior staff
    • Liaise with key technical teams within the IBI infrastructure group and promote key strategies with the Ottawa and wider North American market
    • Support IBI offices and teams worldwide

Qualifications

You’ll Need To Have

  • University Bachelors (BEng) or Masters degree (MEng) in Civil Engineering
  • Current member with PEO as a P.Eng
  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in land development or municipal engineering
  • Experience in delivering sustainability/ providing sustainability advice (LEED AP etc) is an asset
  • Extensive experience in a comparable civil/infrastructure design role, including project experience with Land Development, Site Servicing and Site Grading, Stormwater Management (Hydrology and Hydraulic Calculations/Reports), Road Design, and Technical Report Writing.
  • Infrastructure master planning experience is an asset
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and make independent design decision
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills; ability to communicate technical subjects to senior, non-technical audiences 
  • Experience in working as a key team member in large multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Ability to work autonomously and make design decisions 
  • Enterprising and resourceful, organized and results oriented
  • Ability to lead and motivate others in order to drive projects
  • Project management experience; ability to identify a problem, manage projects against tight timelines with a proactive and collaborative style
  • Ability to handle and prioritize competing deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving skills and orientation; ability to look at the big picture and search for insightful, creative solutions

IBI’s Ottawa office provides Architectural, Civil, Transportation and Water Management Engineering services for the planning, design and construction of buildings and infrastructure.  Our office is located at 333 Preston Street in the Preston Square complex in the heart of “Little Italy” with many pubs, restaurants and other small businesses.  Preston Square occupies the entire block, and is adjacent to the 417 Highway at Rochester Street exit, a short distance from the Ottawa International Airport.  There is convenient OC Transpo bus and O-Train service within walking distance.  The Rideau Canal of skating fame is six blocks away.  Downtown Ottawa, including Parliament Hill is a 10 minutes cab ride.
