Job Description

The Role:

IBI Group is expanding our Education team (IBI Learning+) and as such we are seeking a highly motivated Architect with leadership skills and proven experience in the Schools sector.

The UK&I region within IBI Group encompasses 10 Studios contributing to IBI Group’s standing as one of the top ten largest architectural practices in the world as well as being the largest landscape architectural practice globally.

IBI Group is a design led practice capable of delivering complex, high profile projects of all scales and we demonstrate the genuine improvements our designs make through IBI TH!NK, our in house R&D programme.

We are seeking a local leader to build presence, credibility, and capability within Education, especially in the Schools market which is a crucial service for many communities in the region.  We welcome applications from highly motivated and qualified Architects with leadership skills and proven experience in this sector.  You will operate within the broader Buildings Workstream which includes other sectors such as Healthcare, Commercial, and Housing and there is significant opportunity for you enjoy the crossover between these areas as well as other business streams in Systems and Infrastructure.

You will drive the UK&I sector strategy for 2017 / 20 across your Studio in consultation with your IBI Group peers and be responsible for the future development of that strategy for your region which will incorporate London and the broader South East of England.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear ability and proven track record of working as part of a team to deliver exceptional results aligned with strategic business ambitions, have excellent communication skills, the ability to positively influence decisions and the will be a proactive & energetic team leader able to motivate a team to deliver exceptional results.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leading and supporting on projects with ultimate responsibility for programme and budget management, effective time and resources management and promoting best practice & knowledge within the Studio
  • Together with bid and marketing teams, lead business development and marketing initiatives including coordinating the preparation of proposals
  • Support the UK&I sector lead in undertaking the assessment of opportunities using the Decision-to-Bid process and recommend projects to pursue
  • Once identified, lead bids in the Sector from Prequalification Stage through to Tender, Interview etc
  • Contribute to the ongoing and overall success of the Sector, region and IBI Group - support and strengthen IBI Group’s vision, goals and values
  • Promote collaborative working practices throughout the region and nationally, championing the aims of harmonisation and excellence
  • Interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and others during various stages of project development
  • Coordinating contract documents, design, consulting teams and follow projects through to completion (contract administration)

Qualifications

  • ARB registered architect
  • Direct experience of lead coordinator role, delivering projects at all stages - in particular proven team management skills and experience
  • A creative designer with an understanding of technical delivery
  • Able to demonstrable track record and familiarity with Schools and College clients
  • Demonstrate an in depth knowledge of the ESFA including how the ESFA framework operates, how ESFA projects are bid in their different formats (National and Regional)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of ESFA specific technical requirements such as the FOS and relevant Building Bulletins
  • Demonstrate knowledge of other UK funding mechanisms for schools such as Multi-Academy Trusts, Free Schools, UTC’s, Private and Independent Schools
  • Demonstrate an ability to work in the design and build contractor led market for schools design and delivery
  • Ability to confidently engage with clients and stakeholders
  • Proven experience as an Autodesk Revit user and managing projects in a BIM environment including experience working in a shared (common data) BIM environment
  • Experience of leading change in aspects of business or functional management
  • Demonstrate an ability in hand drawn sketching
  • Be able to show an existing network of contacts within the sector
  • Experience of commercial management and negotiation of fees
