Job Description

As a Software Engineer, you will be working with our Product teams in one or more of our domains within the BA Tech Delivery Team to bring agile change to life. We are doing this by role modelling and embedding agile ways of working and applying SAFe as an overarching umbrella within BA Delivery

Purpose of the role

The primary purpose of the Software Engineer role is to develop and enhance our technological infrastructure. As a pivotal member of our Digital Delivery team, you are entrusted with the responsibility to create, maintain, audit, and continuously improve our systems. This involves not only writing diagnostic programs to ensure system robustness but also meticulously designing and crafting code that aligns with our defined requirements. Your expertise will be fundamental in addressing specific needs, ensuring that our solutions are both efficient and effective, and ultimately driving the success and innovation of our technological endeavours.

Accountabilities

Working in partnership with BA Delivery and the business to:

  • Produce logical and physical designs for all layers of the application architecture, from user interface through to back-end databases and systems
  • Consider and evaluate potential package “off the shelf” solutions in association with BA Delivery Architecture to achieve the defined requirements (including piloting, prototyping and assessing cost of potential solutions)
  • Participate proactively in all the Agile team Ceremonies, including sprint and program increment demos, and inputting into the team backlog. Collaborate with the team to identify and implement improvements via sprint retrospectives
  • Design and develop/code solutions that achieve the identified requirements, using standard methods, tools and techniques. Obtaining specialist advice on aspects of the design, technical policy and test strategy from appropriate specialists as required
  • Plan, design and conduct tests of software, translating acceptance criteria into suitable tests; corrects errors and re-tests to achieve an error-free result. This includes actively seeking and deploying automated test solutions working with Quality/Test engineers.
  • Continuously improve systems, solutions and business processes through working with process owners and other subject matter experts to gain a great understanding of business ways of working and challenges
  • Adhere to secure software development life cycle (SDLC) practices, ensuring that all code produced is robust, free from vulnerabilities, and aligns with industry-standard security protocols and best practices
  • Work with Business Analysts and other stakeholders to understand their acceptance criteria
  • Provide support on systems/solutions, building, testing and implementing fault fixes and monitoring the system to prevent problems occurring
  • Deliver across multiple products & projects, the breadth and complexity of which will vary depending on experience.

This role may require some travel and working from multiple sites/locations within UK and internationally. You must be willing and able to travel to participate in meetings, workshops and other related activities.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Specific technical experience and qualifications required
  • Recognised Agile qualifications (SAFe)

Experience

  • Proven expertise in the technical design, build, test and support of large and/or complex IT solutions.
  • Experience in translating complex business requirements into system design, taking into account technical environment(s), ability of user group to interact with the system and expected life and volatility of system.
  • Demonstrable expertise in a specific technical specialism and/or broad technical expertise.
  • Experience of developing in an agile and/or DevSecOps environment is highly desirable, including unit testing, behaviour driven development, and continuous integration/continuous deployment.
  • Experience of working in digital product and Product teams, exposure to and involvement in SAFe Agile a distinct advantage.
