Job Description

Location of the Job: Abuja, Nigeria
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Role Summary
Husk is seeking a Manager, HSSE (Health & Safety and Environmental & Social) who will be responsible for monitoring, enforcing, directing, and developing HSSE programs to include compliance with corporate, regulatory, and government standards, acquire and maintain required permits, review of safety policies and rules, hazard prevention, site assessments and maintenance of HSSE records.
As a key member of the company’s leadership team based at Abuja, Nigeria, this person will actively participate at the highest level to ensure an environment conducive to a world-class HSSE culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for formulation of Health & Safety and Environmental & Social strategies at Husk India/ Nigeria.
- Responsible for all environmental & safety permit application renewals for existing assets as well as new permit applications for new projects.
- Overall responsibility for advising the top management on all applicable HHSE legislation and monitoring compliance.
- Overall responsibility for gaining and maintaining approvals to ISO 14001 & 45001 and any additional applicable accreditations.
- Develop and Implement policies, procedures, risk management programs, controls, and measures. Be the owner of Root Cause Analysis, Incident Reports, and Summary statistics, and follow through on the closure of action items identified in incident reports.
- Supervise management of all hazardous waste maintain records of same and ensure compliance to all HSSE programs.
- Preparation, implementation, and application of the overall HHSE program for Husk India/ Nigeria.
- Ensure that all audits of critical activities and internal processes are managed so as to minimize risks.
- Ensure roll out and proper implementation of behavioral Safety Programs and other relevant safety initiatives.
- Manage the compilation and ongoing HHSE procedures and plans specific to the needs of the organization and review, monitor, analyses, and report HHSE statistics, objectives, and targets for business improvement.
- Motivate, coach, and encourage all personnel on HHSE matters.
- Drive HHSE training within the Company.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to Health & Safety and Environment & Social issues.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, and lead by example to ensure company goals are achieved and exceeded.
- Will be results-oriented, use a systematic process to develop plans and achieve specific outcomes, drive a team to the achievement of objectives, focus on results rather than activities.
- Be detail-oriented, able to visualize and communicate the critical steps involved in successfully completing a project; strive for the highest level of service quality possible.
- Be deliberate, analytical and thoughtful but decisive, able to cut through extraneous issues and draw conclusions and recommend actions based on factual assessment.
- Manage environmental program including all applicable regulations and corporate requirements as a minimum.
- Maintaining accurate and timely processing of environmental permits, licenses, and documents by managing relationships with State government agencies along with supporting consultants and vendors.
- Managing and maintaining environmental compliance at both the Centre and State levels by ensuring that the required permits are acquired and that the permit conditions (e.g. sampling, recordkeeping) are met.
- Manage and be responsible for the activities of the Emergency Response Team and Incident Command System.
- Manage the evaluation of all materials prior to storage or transfer for safety, health, environmental and permit compliance issues.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Attributes
- 8+ years of HHSE experience preferably in a renewable energy sector and with a strong environmental background. 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
- A thorough and practical knowledge of central, State, and Local environmental laws and regulations.
- Graduate in Engineering / Environmental Science preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Software and Google Suite.
- Excellent Excel and data analysis experience

Location:
- This role is based in Abuja, Nigeria with 60% travel across Husk plants / potential plants. .
Salary
Negotiable based on experience.
