Husk is one of the world’s leading rural energy providers. We provide low-cost and reliable power to rural households and businesses, entirely from renewable energy sources. Powering economic possibilities in every village is at the heart of everything we do.

We design, build and operate the lowest cost hybrid (solar and biomass) power plant and distribution network in India and Africa. To date, Husk has provided electricity to over 15,000 homes and business, reducing 95,000 tonnes of CO2. Our aim is to provide 30MW of power to 225,000 customers by 2025, and save 350,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Key Responsibilities

General

  • Drive all engagements with regulatory and government agencies as well as key policy makers in ensuring the best interest of the company always.
  •  Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations applicable to Husk operations in Nigeria.
  • Provide requisite support and inputs on legal, policy and regulatory engagements to various business units.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all relevant permits and site level documentation – ESIA, Land Lease, NERC registration etc - for effective mini grid deployment and operations are in place and order at all times.
  • Drive efforts at ensuring adherence to relevant polices and regulations within the power sector.
  • Develop and implement right processes and practices for whole operations in accordance with country and sector regulatory requirements.

Business Growth and Support

  • Drive engagements with the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) for relevant grant award submissions and grant disbursement claims.
  • Provide support to Business Units to ensure relevant documentation, agreements, contracts etc are reviewed and in alignment with relevant policies/regulations and business objectives.
  • Drive engagements with Company Secretary and provide legal support as required.
  • Drive all engagements on regulatory agency correspondence, applications and reports.

Stakeholder Management

  • Develop, coordinate engagements and maintain effective relationships with all relevant government agencies, policy and regulatory stakeholders – REA, NERC, NEMSA, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Environment & all other principal policy actors relating to Husk’s business goals.
  • Provide regular updates on government policy direction and possible impact on Husk’s business objectives and strategy.
  • Act as a liaison for engagement with regulatory stakeholders and various business units.

Organizational Strategy

  • Actively contribute inputs to the development of company's Business plan, ensuring alignment with policy and regulatory outlook.
  • Support the Country Manager and other Business Unit Heads in stakeholder engagements and building partnerships.
  • Contribute towards long-term organizational strategic goals, identify key policy and regulatory actors, and build relationships for continued engagements.

Qualifications

 

General Skills & Attributes

  • Able to provide high level support/inputs on legal and regulatory issues to various business units
  • Ability to drive engagement with relevant high-level government and policy stakeholders.
  • Clear and concise communication and presentation skills in both verbal and written contexts.
  • Should possess knowledge of applicable policies, regulations and standards driving the off grid (power) sector in Nigeria.

Does this sound like you?

  • Graduate from a leading institution with a related degree in Law or Social Sciences. Postgraduate degree and/or related professional qualifications, a plus.
  •  5-7 years of experience in a similar role within the (off grid) power sector.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations, guidelines, standards within the off grid (power) sector in Nigeria.
  • Must have experience working within large diverse teams towards achieving common goal and objectives.
  • This position requires critical thinking and the ability to provide time-bound solutions to the benefit of the company, and its business verticals.
  •  Lead by example and offer support/co-ordination to company workflow as required.
  • Excellent skills with MS Office/Google Suite
  • Business level fluency in major Nigerian languages especially Hausa, a plus
