Job Description
The office of Tim Louis, Member of Parliament for Kitchen-Conestoga is seeking a dynamic and create Communications Assistant to join a collaborative, mission-driven team. Based in the constituency office in Kitchener, this role supports community-focused communications and local outreach initiatives across the riding.
In this role, you will help inform and engage constituents, connecting them with federal initiatives, services, and their community, through compelling digital content and storytelling. This hands-on position emphasizes visual storytelling, social media, and multimedia content creation, and includes attending and supporting events throughout the riding.
You’ll be empowered to take initiative, bring forward ideas, and shape communications that have a meaningful impact. We’re looking for someone passionate about graphic design, photography/videography, video editing, and social media, who is eager to contribute creatively to public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute social media strategy across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and others, with a focus on engaging and growing audiences
- Create high-quality visual content, including graphic design, photography, and video editing for digital and print use
- Design and produce multimedia assets, including short-form videos, reels, informational graphics, newsletters, print materials, and shareable content for digital distribution
- Design and produce newsletters, mailers, and printed outreach materials, ensuring consistency in branding and messaging
- Maintain and update the Member’s website, ensuring content is current, accessible, and engaging
- Develop communications materials, including:
- Social media posts and campaigns
- Website content and updates
- Newsletters and email campaigns
- Printed mailers and outreach materials
- Support event communications, including on-site photography, videography, and live social media coverage
Qualifications
Education:
- Post-secondary education in communications, graphic design, digital media, marketing, or a related field.
Experiences and Skills:
- 1–3 years of experience in communications or marketing (internships and co-op placements considered);
- Strong proficiency in graphic design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator);
- Demonstrated experience with photo and video production and editing;
- Proven ability to design newsletters, print collateral, and digital shareables with strong attention to detail and visual consistency;
- Experience planning, managing, and growing social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, etc.);
- A creative thinker with a keen eye for visual storytelling and branding consistency;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines;
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Requirements
- Please include a portfolio of graphic design work demonstrating your experience with digital and print content creation;
- Ability to travel within the riding, including use of a personal vehicle;
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and community engagement.
