Job Description
We're looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Kubernetes Developer to join our growing engineering team in Toronto, Canada. In this role, you will design, deploy, and maintain scalable Kubernetes infrastructure that powers our cloud-native applications. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to optimize container orchestration, improve system reliability, and implement infrastructure best practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in Kubernetes ecosystems and a commitment to operational excellence.
- Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters in production environments, ensuring high availability and performance
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or Helm to automate infrastructure provisioning
- Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines to streamline application deployment and release processes
- Configure and manage container networking, storage, and security policies within Kubernetes environments
- Monitor cluster health and application performance using tools like Prometheus and Grafana; troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently
- Implement logging and observability solutions to ensure comprehensive system visibility and diagnostics
- Collaborate with development teams to containerize applications and optimize Docker images for production use
- Document infrastructure architecture, configurations, and runbooks to maintain organized and accessible knowledge bases
- Stay current with Kubernetes updates, security patches, and emerging cloud-native technologies
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide timely incident response and resolution
Qualifications
**Required Skills and Experience:**
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or cloud platform administration
- Strong proficiency in container technologies, particularly Docker and container orchestration
- Demonstrated expertise with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Solid understanding of Linux/Unix system administration and command-line tools
- Experience writing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools
- Proficiency in YAML configuration and Kubernetes manifest files
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or equivalent)
- Strong networking fundamentals including DNS, load balancing, and service discovery concepts
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems in distributed environments
**Preferred Skills and Experience:**
- Experience with Helm charts and package management for Kubernetes
- Familiarity with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd
- Knowledge of GitOps practices and tools (ArgoCD, Flux)
- Scripting experience in Python, Go, or Bash
- Understanding of microservices architecture and cloud-native design patterns
- Experience with Kubernetes security best practices and policy enforcement
- Familiarity with storage solutions and persistent volume management
- Knowledge of API gateway and ingress controller configurations
