Our client is a 62 year old ENR 400 contractor with design-build and self-performing interior business units. A key current market is the design build of charter schools throughout the US. These are projects with a cost structure and materials similar to office and retail construction. They culturally operate the old fashioned way, where a handshake is as good as a contract.

We are seeking a VP/Director of Preconstruction services to lead, manage, train, and motivate a commercial design-build conceptual estimating department comprised of a half dozen individuals. Review, oversight and implementation of standardized processes. Clients are nationwide and are in the education, medical, laboratory and senior living sectors. The department is responsible for planning, conceptualization, budgeting, site evaluation, property entitlements, and all activities to prepare a project for construction.

Responsibilities:

• Support Business Development teams
• Review, continually improve, and implement standard processes
• Administer the national purchasing program
• Ensure departments client contracts are prepared properly
• Oversee the project scope and budget during the design phase
• Prepare reports for company management
• Team oversight of project feasibility, due diligence, design, zoning, bidding, and final pricing
• In charge of department quality
• Drive project schedules in a timely manner
• Build relationships with customers which results in ongoing negotiated projects
• Serve as the estimator on some projects
• Be a Team Player and a Team Builder



The successful candidate needs to be a self sufficient integrity driven leader with strong conceptual estimating experience, has managed estimating teams, and has a demonstrated history of obtaining and maintaining long term client relations. A polished professional, positive, and highly energetic individual. Must be very organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Degreed professional, preferably construction or engineering related.

Preferable candidates will have client relationships in similar or new market sectors which they bring with them.
