Job Description

General Summary:

The IT Service Area Portfolio Manager reports to the AVP, Enterprise Engagement and is accountable for governing and optimizing a portfolio of IT investments within an assigned service area. Ensures alignment of technology initiatives with organizational priorities to deliver measurable value, enhance patient care, and improve operational efficiency. The Portfolio Manager partners with executive, clinical, operational, and technology leaders to translate business and clinical needs into prioritized IT strategies and initiatives. Serving as a liaison between Corporate IT and service area leadership, the role ensures effective prioritization, governance, financial stewardship, and performance accountability across the portfolio. Drives cross-functional collaboration to enable innovation, manage change, and achieve value realization. The Portfolio Manager maintains end-to-end oversight of initiatives, monitors key performance indicators, and ensures an exceptional stakeholder experience through structured governance, transparent communication, and disciplined execution.

Key Tasks and Duties:

Relationship Management & Stakeholder Engagement

  1. Build and maintain trusted relationships with executive leadership, clinical leaders, administrators, and IT stakeholders through regular engagement
  2. Serve as an IT liaison and strategic advisor for the assigned service area, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities
  3. Translate clinical and operational needs into actionable IT initiatives in partnership with Corporate IT
  4. Facilitate clear, consistent communication, transparency, and shared understanding of priorities, constraints, and decisions - across Corporate IT, PMO, and service area leadership.

Portfolio Strategy & Governance

  1. Participate in service area strategic planning aligned to system priorities (clinical quality, access, revenue cycle, digital transformation)
  2. Maintain a current IT portfolio and related roadmap for service area, including prioritization, sequencing, and dependency management
  3. Facilitate portfolio governance processes (business cases, funding approvals, ROI evaluation) in coordination with Corporate IT – and support prioritization decisions based on value, risk, regulatory requirements, and patient impact
  4. Ensure adherence to enterprise standards including HIPAA, Joint Commission, and cybersecurity frameworks

Portfolio Delivery Oversight

  1. Oversee a portfolio of projects and programs, coordinating closely with the PMO
  2. Monitor delivery health, risks, issues, and interdependencies across initiatives
  3. Ensure alignment of execution with approved business cases, defined outcomes, timelines, and strategic objectives
  4. Proactively identify, escalate, and resolve technology-related issues impacting operations
  5. Monitor benefit realization and financial performance across the portfolio

Performance Management & Reporting

  1. Monitor KPIs tied to IT value delivery (e.g., adoption, operational efficiency, patient safety impact)
  2. Identify and implement mitigation strategies for underperforming initiatives or metrics
  3. Track portfolio outcomes and continuously adjust roadmaps based on performance and evolving priorities
  4. Deliver regular business reviews and executive-level reporting, including portfolio status, risks, and value realization

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  1. Identify and advance opportunities to leverage emerging technologies (AI, automation, digital tools)
  2. Incorporate technical debt remediation and optimization into portfolio planning
  3. Drive standardization and scalability of IT solutions across the service area
  4. Promote continuous improvement in governance, delivery, and stakeholder experience.
  5. Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field; and/or Clinical degree.
  • Five plus (5+) years of experience in project and program delivery.
  • Three to five plus (3-5+) years of leadership experience in project and program delivery in healthcare.
  • Experience supporting technology and large-scale healthcare transformations.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations (clinical workflows, patient access, revenue cycle, etc.).
  • Broad technical understanding spanning infrastructure, security, applications, and healthcare technology standards.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills.
