GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the quality and compassionate care provided to patients. These duties may include but are not limited to the greeting and escorting of patients to the exam room, obtaining medical histories, the measurement and recording of vital signs, preparing patients for an examination/procedure, and assisting the provider during the examination/procedure.
Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist patients upon arrival
- Obtain and record patient medical histories and vital signs
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians during exams
- Administer medications and injections as directed by a physician
- Perform basic lab tests and collect/prep lab specimens
- Schedule patient appointments and manage medical records
- Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and handle patient correspondence
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and exam rooms
- Provide patient education and instructions on medical procedures or care
- Assist in minor surgical procedures and wound care
- Manage inventory and order medical supplies as needed
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and maintain patient confidentiality
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Current BLS-C certification upon hire or successful completion by the end of orientation.
- One of the following:
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160-hour minimum).
- Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five years.
- Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year of clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five years.
- Military trained medical personnel with at least one year of clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
- EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience.
